Sammartino went on to hold the title for nearly eight years — by far the longest reign ever. The way wrestling storylines are written these days, that mark will never be eclipsed.

Tribeca Film Review: ‘Love, Gilda’

Tribeca Film Review: ‘Love, Gilda’
The great “Saturday Night Live” performers have always been more than funny. They’re up there to make you laugh, of course, but it’s the way they make you laugh — the manic expressive rock-star shine of their personality, and how it channels their comedic spirit. (That’s something you hold onto long after the laugh is over.) And no one on “Saturday Night Live” ever had a spirit that burned more brightly, or hilariously, than Gilda Radner.

She poured her essence — her very being — into every character she created, and she did it effortlessly, without fuss. When she played Judy Miller, the hyperactive Brownie who made up insanely self-directed TV fantasies in her bedroom, Radner seemed to be channeling her inner child — but that, in a larger sense, is what she did in every sketch. She didn’t just create characters. She became them, and invited the audience to

Trevor Noah Jokes That Black People Should ‘See How Far We Can Push Starbucks’ (Video)
On Wednesday’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah took a minute to celebrate “good news” for racist Starbucks employees, and suggested that black people have a little fun at the coffee shop chain’s expense over the wrongful arrest of two black customers last week.

“If you’re a racist barista at Starbucks, good news! You’ve got about a month left to wild out,” Noah said about the company’s announcement that it will give employees new racial-bias training after two black men were arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks last Thursday while waiting for a friend to join them.

Video of the arrest, in which other customers were heard insisting the two men had done nothing wrong, went viral over the weekend. Philadelphia police have since opened an investigation, the store’s manager was fired, and Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson publicly apologized.

“I just want to say props to Starbucks. As a company, they didn’t just apologize, they’re actually doing something about it… and I bet from now on they’re gonna be a lot more careful when it comes to dealing with race,” Noah said.

“In fact I was thinking,” Noah continued, “you know what black people should do? I think we should see just how far we can push Starbucks now, just to mess with them. Like, now we go back after they’ve done the racial bias training, and just use the bathroom but take all the toilet paper home with us.”

Noah continued with a few other examples of what could be done to mess with Starbucks. Watch the whole thing above.

'The Devil and Father Amorth': Film Review

'The Devil and Father Amorth': Film Review
Having followed his 1971 masterpiece The French Connection with a second worldwide hit, The Exorcist, in 1973, William Friedkin has perennially returned to that demonic-pea-soup fountain. There was a 1979 theatrical rerelease, cropped to suit 70mm, then a tweaked version with new footage for TV in the '80s. We got a theatrical "Version You've Never Seen" in 2000, in time to ride the DVD reissue wave; somewhere in there, Friedkin and the book's author William Peter Blatty briefly tried to make The Exorcist III together.

Now Friedkin cuts out the fictional middleman, traveling to Italy to film a real-life exorcism...

'Love, Gilda': Film Review | Tribeca 2018

A warm if not quite comprehensive-feeling biography of a performer who, even for a celebrity, elicited an unusually strong personal affection from fans, Lisa D'Apolito's Love, Gilda tells the far too short story of Gilda Radner. Understandably weighted toward her years on Saturday Night Live, the polished debut offers a chance to both reconnect with her most famous recurring characters there and to marvel at the amount of fun she clearly had in Studio 8H. Though it's sad to think there may be young audiences who aren't already familiar with Radner, this will serve as a fine introduction once it...

‘Taken’ Pulled Off of NBC Schedule, Moves to Saturdays

“Taken” is being pulled off of the NBC schedule.

The sophomore drama will no longer air on Fridays for the broadcaster. Instead, it will move to Saturdays beginning on May 26. The move means an almost certain cancellation for the series. The show’s renewal last year was something of a surprise, given that the series averaged just a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 5.1 million viewers per episode in Live+Same Day. However, the show had been popular internationally and was relatively inexpensive to produce. NBC also overhauled the show for Season 2, with six Season 1 cast members exiting and Greg Plageman
