BEKASI

The satellite city of Bekasi was often mocked for being “positioned closer to the sun” than the rest of the world, mainly because of its incredibly hot and humid climate. But that obviously hasn’t stopped people from living in Bekasi, which is home to over 2.6 million people. Bekasi is a city of two faces. On the one hand, it has an industrial area featuring grand factories of some of the largest multinational companies in the world. On the other, it’s a high-functioning city filled with some of the largest malls and business centers in the region, making it feel like an extension of Jakarta. Bekasi also has some of the largest affluent residential neighborhoods in the Greater Jakarta Area, which are often described as “cities within a city”. These neighborhoods include Harapan Indah, Summarecon Bekasi, and Kemang Pratama.
