Thursday Island
JCU Thursday Island opened in 2003 and provides teaching and learning facilities for nursing and education students in the Torres Strait region at the northern tip of Australia.
Located in the island's heritage courthouse building, the facility improves access to tertiary education for locals of this remote region of Queensland.
Thursday Island is the administrative heart of the Torres Strait. The island’s population is a diverse mix of cultures, due largely to its geography and intriguing history.
Beche-de-mer, pearls, trochus shells and even some gold attracted speculators from many parts of the world.
