World's Central Banks Are Getting Leaner, But Not the BOE: Chart

Central banks are becoming leaner, even as demands on policy makers increase and they assume additional oversight duties in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. Staffing has fallen almost 1 percent between 2012 and 2017, according to the Central Bank Directory. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s headcount more than halved as the country’s crippling cash shortage pushes the economy toward a “death spiral.” At the other end of the spectrum, the Bank of England more than doubled its numbers as it was tasked with a broader regulatory role.
