4 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Director Bryan Singer revealed on his official Twitter and Instagram pages today that actress Olivia Munn has been cast in X-Men: Apocalypse as Betsy Braddock, a.k.a. Psylocke. The news comes just a few weeks after a report that producers were searching for the right actress to play Psylocke, but no contenders for the role were revealed. Olivia Munn joins a cast that also includes Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler}, Ben Hardy (Angel) and Lana Condor (Jubilee).

Betsy Braddock, a.k.a. Psylocke made her Marvel comics debut in Captain Britain #8 in 1976. She ultimately ended up taking over as Captain Britain from her twin brother in 1986, and made her debut as Psylocke in 1987's Uncanny X-Men #213. Viggo Mortensen Was Offered Wolverine Role in X-Men

14 hours ago | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

We already know that Bryan Singer wanted Russell Crowe to play Wolverine in the first "X-Men" movie. Crowe turned down the role and recommended the lesser-known Hugh Jackman, who eventually won the role and has been playing the superhero ever since. But in a new interview, Viggo Mortensen revealed that he too was offered the part. "I was offered Wolverine for the first movie. I guess it would have been for the franchise then. That was before I got 'Lord of the Rings,'" he explained. "I remember going to the meeting with the director, Bryan Singer, with my son who was a total comic book expert. He was about 10 at the time. Henry came, and Bryan showed us all these models and storyboards, and Henry was instructing the director, saying, 'Oh, you're going to change this thing right here.'" Ultimately however, Mortensen had to reject the offer due to a scheduling conflict. »

Misinterpreted Film: The Prestige

15 hours ago | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

The Prestige is about magicians, who specialize in tricking the mind as a form of entertainment. Like it’s subject matter, the film itself fittingly accomplishes the same thing. Join us as we discuss the subtle complications of this intriguing film and how they are often misunderstood by general audiences.

Not every movie is meant to be a form of mind-numbing entertainment. Sometimes things get complicated. Christopher Nolan's The Prestige is one of these movies. Not only is the subject matter itself tricky, but the way the story is told and the way characters are developed is not straight-forward. The Prestige is one of those films which allows the audience to come up with their own conclusions about the events that take place. While this leaves much of the importance of the film open to interpretation based on personal perspective, it also provides an opportunity for misunderstanding. This article »

Hollywood & Broadway: Studios Rush to the Stage Despite Clashing Business Models

7 April 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

When Hollywood merges with Broadway, there are always fender-benders.

Just ask Harvey Weinstein.

As the movie aficionado and awards maven steered “Finding Neverland,” his first venture as a lead theater producer, toward the Great White Way, eyebrows raised in his wake.

He switched press agents. He swapped out the lead actors. He entirely scrapped an earlier version of the musical with a different creative team. When in spring 2014, he landed a much-coveted spot for the show on the Tony Awards telecast, naysayers tut-tutted that the play hadn’t even begun performances out of town, much less confirmed its Broadway run. Besides, Jennifer Hudson, the star of the Tonys segment, wouldn’t even be appearing in the actual stage production.

“I was criticized for Jennifer,” Weinstein recalls. “But this song (‘Neverland’) has been downloaded a million times, and all over the world people now know ‘Finding Neverland.’ In the movie business, »

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Rogue Cut Longer Than Reported

3 April 2015 10:02 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Yesterday, we reported that the British Board of Film Classification listed the runtime for the "Rogue Cut" of last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past at exactly 11 minute and 11 seconds longer than the theatrical runtime. While we still don't know when this special edition Blu-ray and DVD will be released, director Bryan Singer clarified the report on his Twitter page, revealing that there will actually be more than 17 minutes of new footage, plus "little changes" he made to the theatrical cut. Of course, he wouldn't elaborate on what these "little changes" may be, but hopefully we'll find out soon enough.

We first reported about the Rogue Cut back in September, with the new footage featuring a subplot involving Anna Paquin's Rogue. While she did appear briefly in the movie, she actually had a much bigger role, with these scenes featuring a group of mutants breaking her out of a prison. »

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Rogue Cut Adds 11 Minutes

2 April 2015 6:34 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in September, we reported that 20th Century Fox is planning a "Rogue Cut" Blu-ray and DVD release for last summer's blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past. Producer Simon Kinberg revealed that this new cut will include more than 10 minutes of extra footage that wasn't included in the theatrical version of X-Men: Days of Future Past. While we still don't know exactly when the "Rogue Cut" will be released, Empire is reporting that it will include exactly 11 minutes and 11 seconds of new footage.

Our report from September revealed that the new footage will involve a subplot that was cut out featuring Anna Paquin's Rogue, which Simon Kinberg called a "substantial part of the movie." The scenes in question involve several different mutants breaking Rogue out of prison. We also reported in January that the "Rogue Cut" will feature all new extras that weren't included in last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past »

This summer fans of Anna Paquin are in for a treat with the release of the Rogue Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past, which restores the True Blood star’s action sequence which was cut from last year’s mutant superhero blockbuster, and now it has been revealed that the extended version will include 11 minutes and 11 seconds of additional footage.

New Projects: Richard Jewell, ‘Apostle Paul’, Malala, and James Gunn

2 April 2015 9:06 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

This week brought us another update on the Richard Jewell thriller that would reportedly re-team Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill following their work together on The Wolf of Wall Street. Deadline is reporting that Clint Eastwood is now circling the project.

Jewell was a police officer who discovered a backpack with a bomb inside at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and helped to evacuate the area. Though he was originally hailed a hero, misreporting by the press ultimately labeled him a potential suspect. Hill would play Jewell, and DiCaprio would play the Southern lawyer who helped clear his name.

The film is based on an article called “The Ballad of Richard Jewell” that ran in Vanity Fair in 1997, and Billy Ray (Captain Phillips, The Hunger Games) wrote the screenplay for the currently untitled film. It was originally presumed that he might join up again with Paul Greengrass to direct, but Greengrass »

This week on The Collision, Adam and I take on a variety of subjects.  Our main topic of conversation is Steven Spielberg.  We talk about why he's the best choice to helm Ready Player One, we look back at his career, his working habits, why he's not only a transformative and influential filmmaker, but also one who's managed to stay relevant over the years.  In other news, we talk about Hugh Jackman leaving Wolverine behind (which leads to a tangent about Deadpool and my comment that there's no way Fox is going to release an R-rated version) and the first trailer for Spectre.  As always, we finish up with our recommendations. Did 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Cast 'EastEnders' Star as Angel?

1 April 2015 6:17 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier in the week, director Bryan Singer confirmed that mutant Angel would be appearing in the franchise sequel X-Men: Apocalypse. He did so by releasing a piece of concept art that depicted the character in some sort of cage, possible as part of a circus. The director didn't, however, say who was playing Angel. Today, a new report from Jeff Sneider at The Wrap claims that previously announced cast member Ben Hardy is playing the fan-favorite Marvel character. There is no confirmation from 20th Century Fox that this is true.

The cast of this comic book adaptation includes Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Alexandra Shipp (young Storm), Sophie Turner (young Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (young Cyclops) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (young Nightcrawler), along with X-Men: First Class star Rose Byrne as Moira McTaggert.
