Yes, There Will Be A ‘Den Of Thieves’ Sequel With Gerard Butler

You might’ve already forgotten about “Den Of Thieves,” the low-rent “Heat” ripoff that opened a few weeks ago starring Gerard Butler. At first glance, the poorly reviewed movie looked like the nail in the coffin for the actor, whose recent run of movies have included Things You Didn’t See such as “Geostorm” and “A Family Man.” However, it appears that Stx Entertainment is still very much #TeamButler, despite “Den Of Thieves” opening in third place on its debut weekend.

Oscar Isaac Filmed ‘Annihilation’ and ‘Star Wars’ Simultaneously at the Same Studio: ‘It Was Pretty Wild’

Oscar Isaac Filmed ‘Annihilation’ and ‘Star Wars’ Simultaneously at the Same Studio: ‘It Was Pretty Wild’
Oscar Isaac may not have the biggest role in Alex Garland’s new science-fiction thriller “Annihilation,” but he certainly has one of the most important. Playing the mysteriously ill husband of Natalie Portman’s lead character presented its own unique challenges, but filming “Annihilation” was even crazier for Isaac since he was also shooting “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” at the very same time on the very same studio lot in London. Isaac told /Film that he would literally walk between both sets, sometimes arriving on the “Annihilation” set while still in character as Poe Dameron.

“I would shoot something in the morning and then have a little bit of down time and then switch it up,” Isaac said. “So that was wild…I think I visited, too, still dressed up as Poe on the set. It reminded me a little of “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure,” when he’s on

Film Review: ‘Black Kite’

Film Review: ‘Black Kite’
The low-budget, indie drama “Black Kite” charts five decades of political turmoil in Afghanistan through the eyes of a hapless kite maker, the middle generation of a sadly doomed dynasty. More well-intentioned than accomplished, this second feature from Kabul-born, Canadian helmer Tarique Qayumi suffers in comparison to “The Kite Runner,” Marc Foster’s richly detailed screen translation of Khaled Hosseini’s beloved bestseller. But despite its shortcomings of script and performance, the film has a certain middlebrow festival appeal, considering its exotic locations and winsome child players. Certainly, multihyphenate Qayumi deserves credit for his deft use of archival footage and animation, which provide useful context and historical background.

The heavy-handed opening moments are a bit of a turn-off, and work against audience identification, as we see that things won’t end well for the film’s protagonist, Arian (sober Haji Gul, who can’t make his ingenuous character credible). Bloody and bowed, he is sentenced

Rotterdam Film Review: ‘Poisonous Roses’

The fetid effluence of sewage water is the major leitmotif of Ahmed Fawzi Saleh’s debut feature “Poisonous Roses,” an elliptical drama of two siblings, set within the hellish alleyways of Cairo’s unsavory tannery district. Best viewed as a fictional spinoff from the director’s superb 2010 documentary “Living Skin,” which depicted life in the same (or similar) workshops, the film is a mood piece that fitfully plumbs a sister’s obsessive love for her listless brother, who’s looking to escape Egypt. Atmospheric at the cost of narrative coherence, “Roses” is notable for the way it depicts a quasi-surrealistic netherworld via visually arresting shots of a queasy austerity. Festival programmers clued in to the small but distinctive Egyptian independent scene should come calling, while the French coin involved could translate into additional bookings.

The narrow semi-paved maze of streets in Cairo’s old tannery sector are difficult to square with the modern world: blackened waste pours out

Adam Rippon Fires Back at Critics With Help From ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

Figure skater Adam Rippon has become a fan favorite in this year’s Winter Olympics, making a name for himself with his endearing interviews and his bronze medal-winning performance in Monday’s team competition free skate. As the first openly gay winter Olympian from the United States, Rippon has been outspoken about Lgbt issues and open about the struggles he faced growing up.

Recently, he even caused a stir in the political sphere when he refused to meet with Vice President Mike Pence, saying in a USA Today interview: “If it were before my event, I would absolutely not go out of my way to meet somebody who I felt has gone out of their way to not only show that they aren’t a friend of a gay person but that they think that they’re sick. Israeli Police Recommend Arnon Milchan, Benjamin Netanyahu Be Charged With Bribery

Israeli Police Recommend Arnon Milchan, Benjamin Netanyahu Be Charged With Bribery
Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan — former Israeli spy and current head of New Regency films — gave illicit bribes accepted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli police declared Tuesday night in a shock announcement. They will recommend both men, as well as an Israeli publishing tycoon, be officially charged with bribery.

Tuesday’s announcement offered the latest twist in a multi-year scandal that has plagued Israel’s right-wing prime minister. Its plot reads like one of Milchan’s own films, centering around hush-hush gifts of expensive pink champagne, thousand-dollar cigars and face time with Hollywood elite in exchange for tax breaks worth billions of shekels. At the heart of the so-called Case 1000 was the question of whether a high-placed Hollywood executive — later revealed to be Milchan — lavished Netanyahu and his wife Sara with expensive gifts and A-list access in exchange for political favors.

On Tuesday night, police answered that question, potentially signaling the end of Netanyahu’s decades

Bingeworthy™ Breakdown: Self-Important ‘Here and Now’ Is Already Exhausting

The Bingeworthy™ Breakdown is an occasional look at new TV shows. Over 500 scripted seasons of TV are expected to air in 2018, and to help you sort the wheat from the chaff, we’re going to give you the lowdown to help you work out whether it’s worth tuning in every week for them or waiting to binge later. Today we look at HBO’s “Here And Now.”

Allow me to lead by an example you should refuse to follow: every single thing about “Here and Now” is obnoxiously self-important, narratively grating and rote with faux intellectualism through which every character is charged with the need to be the smartest person in the room.
