The National Army Museum Te Mata Toa, along with the help of the New Zealand Lotteries Commission, developed a travelling WWI exhibition which toured around the country visiting over 25 destinations throughout New Zealand during 2015 – 2016.
Heartlanders: New Zealanders of the Great War tells the stories of ordinary New Zealanders in WWI and was created to bring the accounts of the brave soldiers who fought back home to the communities where their journey began. Original film footage, period music and battle sounds together with original artefacts from the Museum’s own collection accompany the tales of the Heartlanders.
