    High Tide for Lobster ME

    By Xania V. Woodman

A new crustacean-centric restaurant by Lev Restaurant Group, also creators of I ♥ Burgers, will claw its way onto the Las Vegas scene this July. Lobster ME—the name is a playful invocation of the postal abbreviation for Maine—will offer two variations on that New England staple, the lobster roll: steamed and served with drawn butter and herbs on a freshly baked bun, and steamed and served with mayo, celery and herbs on the same bun.

Rí Rá Irish Pub will have Vegas seeing green

    By Xania V. Woodman

“Ree-Rah.” Pronunciation and location are all you really need to have some good craic (“crack,” sociable fun) at Rí Rá Irish Pub, opening March 17 in the Shoppes at Mandalay Place. Beer, whiskey, Irish vittles and live music will be served up day and night in an environment so authentic you can still smell the ink on the staff’s visas. But look deeper—Rí Rá is stacked to its antique rafters with salvaged material from all over the Emerald Isle.

    Tailor-Made Nightlife at Savile Row

    By Xania V. Woodman

2010 returned “bespoke” to popular usage, though not exclusively in reference to custom suiting. Previewing New Year’s weekend and promising a bespoke nightlife experience, Angel Management Group’s new boîte, Savile Row (rhymes with “gravel”; named for London’s street of custom suit shops), aims to embody discriminating taste as it replaces Noir Bar beneath LAX’s entry bridge. “We’re trying to create a place where people will do whatever it takes to get in,” says AMG’s vice president of marketing, Alex Cordova. Las Vegas: Brace yourself to possibly hear the word “no.”

    The Other Big Debut

    By Sean DeFrank

Americans love hamburgers, ordering 9.5 billion in restaurants in 2009. But that doesn’t explain the overwhelming response to the Las Vegas debut of Steak ’n Shake. When the diner-style fast-food restaurant opened in the South Point at 11 a.m. Dec. 16, people who had been waiting in line for more than three hours rushed in to get their first taste of the chain’s famous Steakburgers and “hand-dipped” milkshakes. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman joined South Point owner Michael Gaughan for the opening.

    Everybody in the Pool!

    By Marvin Lucas

After more than a year of renovations, the city of Las Vegas’ Pavilion Center pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Dr., is back in business. Fourteen months and $3.85 million later, the pool reopened Dec. 13. The new-and-improved facility features retractable doors and rooftop, and the same 50-meter pool it’s had since it first opened in 2002. The renovation was funded by the Clark County School District ($1.3 million), bond proceeds ($2.1 million) and proceeds from the regional construction tax ($460,000 of which had to be used for recreation facilities in Ward 2).

Conceived, choreographed and directed by legendary choreographer Twyla Tharp, the 80-minute show combines Sinatra’s recorded vocal tracks with a live big band while telling an abstract boy-meets-girl story through dance of four young couples.

    Claws 3

    By Marvin Lucas

The term “New England charm” may conjure up images of quaint coastal towns, but when Mobstah Lobstah came West, it skipped the cute. Instead, Mobstah Lobstah deals in fresh Maine seafood served in a style that’s more Tony Soprano than Martha Stewart. The brawn behind the venture, mixed martial arts fighter Allen Berube, was born and raised in Maine. UFC fans may recall the fighter-turned-restaurateur from Spike TV’s Ultimate Fighter 5.

Wynn’s Secret Bar Gets an Overhaul

    By Xania V. Woodman

Chef David Walzog’s Lakeside Grill wasn’t the only thing to open up last month down by Wynn’s Lake of Dreams. Beyond the hotel’s registration desks, the gleaming, petite new North Show Terrace bar quietly began serving on Oct. 13, replacing the rolling banquet bar that had presided over the long, narrow balcony since the property opened. With 10 tables and comfortable rattan patio furniture, it’s the perfect place from which to take in the fantastical shows on the lake, which in winter begin at 7 p.m.

    Lakefront Property

    By Xania V. Woodman

About the only thing better than a Walzog restaurant overlooking Wynn’s Lake of Dreams is having two of them. Chef David Walzog and members of the SW Steakhouse team—including general manager Mario Disi and executive pastry chef Kimberly Valdez—will add Lakeside Grill to their résumés when it opens to the public (four days early) Oct. 29, serving dinner nightly.
