Biography

My father was an avid mountaineer who introduced me to alpine endeavors at a very young age. Unfortunately, we lived in Ohio, so our mountains were your molehills. Despite that challenge, I managed to broaden my horizons and ski all over North America (and sometimes in Europe). Our family edited a newsletter called “Slope Dope” for a Cleveland-area ski club decades ago. I’m trying to keep that tradition alive as an editor and writer for The San Francisco Chronicle. In the winter, you can find me on the slopes of the Sierra, bringing up another generation of skiers. In the summer, you can find me dreaming of winter.
