6th-9th August 1915....100 years ago in history we remember the battle for Chunuk Bair. On 8th August the Wellington Battalion captured the hill of Chunuk Bair and for the first and only time in the campaign Allied troops could see their original objective - the Dardenelles. After hours of what can only be described as heroic fighting, the Wellingtons were driven back my massive Turkish counter-attacks and suffered appalling losses. Corporal Cyril Bassett, a signaller, was awarded the Victoria Cross.

A good broad coverage of our military history. Plenty of fantastic pieces. Lacking much of the innovation seen at the likes of Te Papa and Auckland museum.

Had a great stop spent two hours looking at different conflicts in the world. Enjoyed the lunch that we ordered from the café also felt refreshed for our trip back to Wellington. We did some research on family history and found all the staff could not be more helpful with our visit.

Worth having a look but to be honest it's looking a bit tired. After seeing the 2 Gallipoli displays in Wellington that Peter Jackson did and then seeing this you can see that it is in need of some work. That said there is a lot here and interesting.

Comprehensive displays with a lot of detail, covering New Zealand's military history from mid-1800s to the present. Clean toilets, good cafes. Well worth the stop.
