BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:45 A.M.) – Syrian Coalition-led forces (of which Kurdish units form a key component) have blitzed their way through Islamic State lines in eastern Syria to capture 4 towns and villages on the way to a strategic government-held city near the Iraqi border.

On Friday, US-backed militias completed a big assault against ISIS in the southeastern countryside of Syria’s Deir Ezzor province, capturing – according to opposition sources – the towns and villages of Al-Bahra, Al-Kahawi, Al-Kushkiyah and Al-Jabal from the terrorist group.

All four towns and villages are located on the eastern shore of the Euphrates river and represent some of the Islamic State’s last bastions in Syria.

Syrian pro-Coalition fighters accomplished the task despite a very threatening car bomb-led counter-attack by ISIS militants on the same day near the village of Al-Bahra.

The latest advance consolidates the overall push being made by US-backed forces towards the strategic government-held city of Abu Kamal near Syria’s border with western Iraq.
