Tapping into the NPR Culture

The NPR culture is made up of the creative contributions of more than 800 employees all across the globe. We've got reporters and bloggers, artists and writers. To keep us grounded and on schedule, we've also got editors and executives, lawyers and accountants.

The NPR employees, or 'Nippers', as we sometimes call ourselves, come from all walks of life. Some of us having been listening to NPR since we were buckled in the backseat of our parents' car. Others have been all over the world, worked in a variety of industries but have recently discovered the value of public media in their everyday lives. Some of us have cut our teeth at one of our Member Stations, perhaps even yours.

This diverse team comes together behind a common goal: to create a more informed public. We believe in this mission, but also that curiosity and collaboration is the only way to achieve it. We believe you should join us.

Once you are here, you'll find out quickly that you are working alongside some of the smartest and most accomplished journalists, technologists, and staff. Seriously, they are among the best in class.

We breathe learning and exploration at NPR. On any given workday, employees can sit in on a news editorial meeting, listen to a firsthand account from a journalist who has just returned from a war zone, or set aside regular duties to explore an untapped passion during Serendipity Days.

Career growth and advancement is celebrated at NPR. On-site training sessions are conducted in every function of the organization so staff can stay sharp and on the cutting edge. One staff member in the programming division said of the opportunities she's been given in her career here, "NPR cares about their employees. I've gone from an intern to the Development Division to the Programming Division, all because NPR has cared about my pursuit of professional growth and happiness."

All this hard work just means we can play hard too. NPR employees get a front row seat to every Tiny Desk Concert. We've even been known to draw on the walls, eat lots of ice cream, throw great birthday celebrations, and race each other around the building.
