Long before SMU senior Dylan DeMuth enrolled in SMU professor Eric Bing's Global Health class, Bing, who is also a senior fellow and director of global health at the George W. Bush Institute, saw DeMuth's potential, and provided mentoring key to DeMuth's success that inspired him to re-choreograph his life.

DALLAS (SMU) – For SMU senior Dylan DeMuth, a "no" from an SMU professor changed his life. When Professor Eric Bing told DeMuth he was not yet qualified to enroll in his global health class, he gave the premed student a challenge to "improve your grades and call me in a month."

"In the Tower Scholar classes, we learned that in policy you always want to go back to the constituents and ask them what they want. So early in the campaign before we had a strong platform we went out and walked neighborhoods and asked people what they wanted from a candidate. You can’t be out of touch and make policy.”
—Kovan Barzani '17 (economics, public policy and management majors), campaign manager, Jim Burke for Texas House District 114

What SMU students learn in the classroom shapes them to make a bigger impact in their communities. Read more about Kovan's SMU experience: https://goo.gl/Ix2L6d

"I wouldn't be working on the Hill without doing internships in different disciplines. Who else but an SMU Meadows student can say they were published on the front page of a newspaper in a top five media market and interned for a past President in the same school year? My professors gave me the tools to be one of the best in any of the fields I could have pursued, and that is the best kind of job security."
—Natalie Yezbick '15 (journalism, public relations and strategic communications, and communication studies), press assistant for Senator John Cornyn (R-TX)
