The Bureau promotes U.S. interests in the region on issues such as international security, NATO, coordination with the European Union and other regional organizations, support for democracy, human rights, civil society, economic prosperity, counterterrorism, and nonproliferation.

Switzerland

On October 20-26, Secretary Tillerson traveled to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, India, and Switzerland. In Geneva, the Secretary met with the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, International Organization for Migration, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to discuss a number of the current global humanitarian crises. From July 5-10, Secretary Tillerson traveled to Germany, Ukraine, and Turkey. He accompanied President Donald J. Trump on travel to Hamburg, Germany. In Kyiv, Ukraine, he met with President Poroshenko and with young reformers from government and civil society. Belgium and THE United Kingdom

Secretary Tillerson accompanied President Donald J. Trump to Brussels, Belgium to attend the NATO Leaders Meeting. He then made his first official visit to London, U.K. to meet with Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and extend condolences for the May 22 terrorist attack in Manchester on behalf of the American people to the British people and Her Majesty’s Government.
