Portlanders are waking up to a cool, foggy morning in much of the metro area, with temperatures in the low 40s and low clouds over much of the region.

The National Weather Service expects the fog to lift by 1 p.m. and temperatures to climb into the 50s. However, rain is due in the late afternoon, becoming heavy overnight.

Expect the rain to continue intermittently for much of the week, possibly easing on Thanksgiving morning.

The rain will start a couple hours earlier on the coast Sunday, becoming breezy in the afternoon with winds gusting as high as 34 miles per hour.

Conditions should be decent in the mountains for most of the day, starting the morning below freezing at both Timberline Lodge and Mount Hood Meadows, which opened for a seasonal preview this weekend.

Snow, or a mix of rain and snow, are forecast after 5 p.m. today, becoming rainy for most of the week at both locations. Snow could return after Thanksgiving.
