Summer Sizzle: Excessive heat for DC through early next week

Heat Index Today

Another heat wave is settling into the DC area with the hottest temperatures of the year expected. While the last heat wave featured two days in the upper 90s, this one is forecast to have 5! Along with the heat, high humidity values will make it feel even worse with heat index values around 105 degrees and higher.

The region will also experience poor air quality today. Code Orange Air Quality is expected for the DC and Baltimore Metro areas, giving you even more of a reason to stay inside if at all possible. The worst conditions are anticipated by the early afternoon and evening.

The heat wave should last through early next week. There is a pretty strong signal for a considerable cool-down starting Tuesday of next week as high pressure moves over the northeast. That should ensure more of a northerly flow in the region dropping highs back into the 80s.

Today will be the 15th day in the 90s so far this month and 26th time this year. This July is currently tied for the 7th warmest on record ahead of this heat wave.
