Arctic blast: Temperatures plunge prompting warnings

1109 Freeze.JPG

The coldest air of the season is blowing in with tonight's cold front. In fact, this air originated from up around the North Pole!

Here's a little taste of the plunging temperatures on the way. Fortunately, the air moderates at least a little bit on the way here.

This cold will likely bring our first freeze to a lot of the area. In purple, we will likely fall below freezing Thursday night and in blue, there's a Freeze Watch.

Those counties will likely fall below freezing Friday night. The average first freeze of the season is November 18th for D.C., so we're on the early side, but not too ahead of schedule.

Actual temperatures will be cold enough, but Friday will especially be breezy. In the morning it will feel like the teens and 20s, by the afternoon wind chills will only top out near the low 30s!

The cold on the way, especially by Saturday morning is unseasonably cold, so much so that record lows are in jeopardy!

If D.C. does set a new record low, it will be the first time we've set a record low in November, since the 1970s!

Wind chills Saturday morning will be even colder! If you have anything going on that will have you outside Saturday morning, be sure to bundle up!
