Disney's 'Prince Charming' Sets Writer-Director Stephen Chbosky (Exclusive)

7 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Stephen Chbosky, whose drama Wonder opens this weekend, has signed on to tackle a Disney fairy tale.

The writer-director will pen, with an eye to helm, Prince Charming, the studio’s reimagined take on the fairy and folk tale trope.

The movie reunites Chbosky with David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV, who produced Wonder. Hoberman and Lieberman are producing Prince Charming along with Tripp Vinson.

Matt Fogel wrote the initial script for the project, which is a revisionist take on the character popularized in Disney’s own fairy tale movies such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. The story takes a »

Box Office: ‘Justice League’ Soaring to $110 Million U.S. Opening

9 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Warner Bros.-DC’s “Justice League” remains on track for an impressive — but hardly heroic — opening weekend of $110 million at 4,040 North American locations.

Tracking for the mega-budget superhero tentpole hasn’t shifted since Oct. 26, when estimates were first unveiled. Since then, Disney-Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok” opened with $122.7 million on the first weekend in November in what was the fourth-biggest launch of the year after “Beauty and the Beast,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” and “It.”

Justice League” is also opening day-and-date in international markets, with the film launching in Belgium, Brazil, France, Scandinavia, and South Korea on Wednesday.

Stakes are high for Warner Bros., which hasn’t revealed the cost of “Justice League” — estimated to be as much as $300 million, although the studio has provided no guidance on the cost. The movie is the fifth installment of its DC Extended Universe, aimed at duplicating the success of Disney-Marvel’s interconnected franchises.

Make that one less asset available in The Weinstein Co. fire sale.

Warner Bros. has snapped up North American distribution rights to Paddington 2, which TWC has unloaded amid the looming prospect of bankruptcy in the wake of dozens of sexual harassment and assault claims leveled at founder Harvey Weinstein.

The film, which already opened in the U.K. earlier this month and is currently No. 1 at the box office in that territory, was one of the more coveted assets in TWC's slate of upcoming films. The fact that Warners scooped up the kid-friendly pic shouldn't come as a surprise »

Gal Gadot has spoken on her stance regarding Brett Ratner.

The star of Wonder Woman was recently said to be refusing to sign on for a sequel if it involved Ratner, who has been plagued with sexual harassment and misconduct allegations. Ratner's RatPac-Dune Entertainment co-financed the initial superhero hit through its slate financing deal with Warner Bros., but such ties have since been severed.

While speaking with Today's Savannah Guthrie, Gadot commented on the removal of Ratner from the Wonder Woman follow-up. "At the end of the day, a lot has been written about my views and the »

Princes Harry and William Play Stormtroopers in New 'Star Wars' Film

12 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

In August, Star Wars: The Last Jedi star John Boyega spilled the beans that not only did Prince William and Prince Harry film scenes when they visited Pinewood Studios in April 2016, but Tom Hardy also was milling around the set at the same time. By then, Take That singer Gary Barlow had already revealed that he had shot a scene in March.

Much like Daniel Craig's famously clandestine cameo in 2015's The Force Awakens (opposite Daisy Ridley's Rey as she fools him with her Jedi mind-trickery), the four were rumored to be squeezing themselves into Stormtrooper outfits.

Sources now say that not only will the two royals, plus Hardy and Barlow, appear in The Last »

After a breathtaking number of women (84 and counting) have spoken loudly and powerfully in recent weeks to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, the producer's empire almost undoubtedly will crumble. But how? To paraphrase Robert Frost, some say it will end in fire. Some say in ice. A fiery conclusion means prison sentences, a harried sale of assets and restitution for victims. But even if The Weinstein Co. and those associated with it avoid those fates, they still confront a war between brothers that will have nearly everyone in Hollywood freezing them out.

People Editor in Chief Jess Cagle explains this year’s choice—and why the Sexiest Man Alive issue feels a little strange this year.

It’s been a stressful year for America. And so when it came time for our annual ritual of silliness — crowning 2017’s Sexiest Man Alive —we looked for a guy who would have some fun with it and show us a really good time.

Blake Shelton is the perfect man for the job. Our favorite good ol’ boy never takes himself too seriously, and his considerable charm has helped turn The Voice into one of TV’s biggest hits. »

Is Virtual Reality’s Steven Spielberg Still in College?

1 hour ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Virtual reality, which thousands of people are betting billions of dollars it will be a big part of the future of entertainment, is at a crossroads. Equipment sales have hit a plateau despite price chops, and even for those who shell out hundreds of dollars for an Oculus Rift or Htc Vive and a gaming PC, there’s not exactly a Netflix-sized pool of premium content to wade their way through. That shouldn’t be too surprising – after all, the entire technology is only a few years old. But fortunately, the next generation of potential Vr impresarios – and maybe even its. »

‘Latin History for Morons’ Broadway Review: John Leguizamo Explains It All

1 hour ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

The major cliché of today’s theater criticism is that even a slightly dystopian play must be reviewed through the discolored prism of Donald Trump’s presidency. Finally, I have to jump on that bandwagon. John Leguizamo gives us a one-man show that fully warrants unkind references to the 45th president of the United States, as well as to Rep. Steve King and Sen. Ted Cruz. (More of-the-moment targets include Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.) It’s called “Latin History for Morons,” which opened Wednesday at Broadway’s Studio 54 after a successful run at the Public Theater earlier this year. »
