The McDonald's on Barbur Boulevard had a line of "Rick and Morty" fans outside its doors at 8 a.m. Saturday, ready and waiting for a shot at snagging a packet of dipping sauce totaling less than one ounce.
The fast food chain seized on a wave of hype stoked by the show's third season premiere, vastly underestimating the fanaticism of the "Rick and Morty" faithful. And if this promotion was predicated on the belief that it would bolster sales of McDonald's new chicken tenders, the scores of customers leaving the Barbur Boulevard store empty-handed may prove it didn't go as planned.
By noon, would-be customers could be seen leaving the store upon learning the franchise had a little more than 20 packets to hand out, heads either hung low in defeat or shaking in disapproval of a promotion all too reminiscent of Nintendo's product rollouts.
