The United States House of Representatives elections in Virginia, 2018 are scheduled for November 6, 2018.

District 1[edit]

In the 1st district, Democratic challengers to incumbent Rob Wittman include former Marine Edwin Santana; author, professional genealogist, historian, and professional speaker Vangie Williams; and Prince William County School Board Chair Ryan Sawyers,[1][2][3] the first Democrat to ever hold that seat.[4]

District 2[edit]

Republican incumbent Scott Taylor has drawn six Democratic candidates so far in a race targeted by the DNC. This is one of only two GOP held seats that voted for Democrat Ralph Northam in 2017.

Taylor is also being challenged in the Republican primary by former James City County Supervisor Mary Jones, who has attacked Rep. Taylor for his many liberal-moderate views as well as his criticism of President Trump.[5]

District 4[edit]

Democratic incumbent A. Donald McEachin has no primary challengers so far. On the Republican side, Pastor Ryan McAdams, Navy veteran David Leon,[6] and fashion designer Shion Fenty are candidates.[7]

District 5[edit]

Incumbent Republican Tom Garrett Jr. is running unopposed in the Republican primary.

Five Democrats are running including, Roger Dean "RD" Huffstetler, a 38-year-old Marine Corps Veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and business entrepreneur, has announced his candidacy for Virginia's 5th Congressional District.[8] Huffstetler has a strong dislike for the House Freedom Caucus.[9]

District 6[edit]

District 6 will be an open seat in 2018, after the Republican incumbent, Bob Goodlatte, representative from the 6th district since 1993, announced his retirement in November 2017.[10][11]

There are eight Republicans running in this very Republican District, including State Delegate Ben Cline. There are two Democrats running.

District 7[edit]

Democrat Abigail Spanberger, former CIA operations officer, has announced her candidacy against Incumbent Republican Dave Brat.[12][13]

District 10[edit]

Encouraged by the fact that Barbara Comstock's district voted for Hillary Clinton in the U.S. presidential election, 2016, several Democratic candidates are lining up to run for that seat.[14] Republicans believe, however, that given that Comstock is an excellent fundraiser and fierce campaigner, she will be able to keep the seat.[15]

Shak Hill of Centreville has announced that he is challenging Comstock in the Republican primary.[16]

Virginia State Senator Jennifer Wexton of Leesburg announced her candidacy on April 20, 2017.[17]

Lindsey Davis Stover, a senior advisor to Barack Obama's Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki, announced her candidacy on April 18, 2017.[18]

Army veteran Daniel Helmer of Fairfax County has also announced his candidacy,[19] as has Kimberly Adams, a 17-year Fairfax County Public School teacher and former president of the Fairfax County Education Association.[20]

Dorothy McAuliffe, the wife of Terry McAuliffe, is a possible challenger in the 10th District as well.[21] Given that McAuliffe pulled Tom Mulrine from the 2015 race for Virginia's 13th Senate district in order to put Jill McCabe in his place, Republicans believe McAuliffe may do the same to Wexton in order to put his wife in the race.[22]
