AMHERST – Amherst Police and the Amherst Fire Department responded to the 16th floor of Kennedy Hall at the University of Massachusetts after a trash receptacle caught fire Tuesday morning. Kennedy Hall is a 22-floor dorm for first-year students in the Southwest Residential Area.

Police are working with the university’s Environmental Health and Safety team to investigate the cause of the fire, an officer said at the scene. There were no injuries, police said.
