Han Solo Will Play An Important Role In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Force Awakens was a runaway success – you know it, I know it, and after collecting upwards of $2.01 billion worldwide, Disney knows it, too.

As the first mainline Star Wars movie in almost a decade, J.J. Abrams’ reboot shouldered the burden of pumping fresh blood into a franchise that had arguably fallen by the wayside prior to Disney’s historic acquisition of Lucasfilm. All in all, the end result was a slam dunk and now, it’s up to Rian Johnson to repeat that success with the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which isn’t too far off.

In case you missed it, the director’s upcoming space opera – one that appears to share DNA with Empire after all – has been elected as the cover star of Entertainment Weekly’s fall issue. And that can only mean one thing: scores of exciting tidbits relating to the next chapter in Lucasfilm’s beloved Skywalker saga. »

9 Dceu Characters That Are Totally Different From The Comics

If there’s one thing that cannot be argued with about the DC Extended Universe, it’s that it’s taken some brave and bold liberties with the comic book universe. The franchise’s flagship heroes are generally portrayed much darker than they are on the page, villains have been entirely reworked to fit the modern world, supporting characters have been switched around so as to flesh them out in fresh ways and so on and so forth.

As you can tell from the mixed reception that at least three out of the four films released in the Dceu so far have received, not all of these reinventions have been successful. Whatever you think of, say, Henry Cavill’s Superman being willing to kill or Ben Affleck’s Batman torturing his victims, you have to admit that DC aren’t afraid to chuck out the old and ring in the changes. »

Jodie Whittaker Says She Only Got Into Doctor Who When It Was Brought Back

Doctor Who is about to undergo a major change, both in front of the camera and behind it. Last month, it was announced that, for the first time in the show’s 54 year history, the Doctor would next be played by a woman – namely, actress Jodie Whittaker. It’s a decision that’s sparked much controversy, and understandably so, but for the most part, people seem to be on board with it.

After all, change is a good thing and though we can see where the critics are coming from, we’re perfectly content with waiting until the actress makes her debut in the iconic role before rushing to judgement. That being said, it is a bit upsetting to learn that Whittaker isn’t as much of a fan of the sci-fi series as some of the other Doctors have been.

Whereas someone like Peter Capaldi was a lifelong Whovian before getting the job, »

New Set Photos From Ant-Man And The Wasp Crawl Online

For the second year on the trot, 2018 will herald three marquee additions to the McU: Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, which shoots for theaters on July 6th. Peyton Reed is once again calling the shots from behind the lens and he’ll be directing from a script penned by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, who were hired to flesh out the initial treatment from Adam McKay.

With the project currently in production, the expected wave of set photos have begun to surface and down below, we have the latest batch for you. Featuring stars Paul RuddEvangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas, there’s nothing too noteworthy here, as we really just see the actors hanging around, with the context of the scene(s) they’re shooting unknown. That being said, it’s still nice to get another look at the trio back together again and »

Good Time Review

Good Time is a sleazy synth-trip through New York City that stews in a bath of Walter Hill and Running Scared influences. Very Point-a-to-Point-b, burning like a 100-minute fuse. The Safdie brothers (Benny/Josh) navigate New York City like a character itself, creating an underbelly thriller that speeds around dangerous streets with cavalier opportunism. It’s a movie that could Only happen in NYC – as sprawling as it is multifaceted. But even better? An A-list Hollywood heartthrob sheds beautification in favor of back-alley survival scars. Performance becomes transformation and vampire glitter fades to grime (hint at the actor who grows tremendously with each tough break).

Robert Pattinson stars as Connie Nikas, a common thug who’d do anything for his mentally disabled, hearing-challenged brother Nick (Benny Safdie). Connie refuses to watch Nick waste time under psychiatric treatment. He’d rather rob a bank and flee to the country with Nick than live on the grid, »

Joss Whedon Changing The Ending Of Justice League

The Justice League reshoots continue to be a huge talking point on the web, as reports are surfacing at an alarming rate, pointing to what exactly the studio’s been changing. Initially, we heard that Warner Bros. had some issues with the tone, in addition to the portrayal of Cyborg. Then, a follow-up story claimed that early cuts of the film were actually “unwatchable,” with the reshoots being substantial and not at all like what you’d usually see with a big blockbuster.

Now, /Film has the latest scoop, giving us even more details on what Warner Bros. is doing to their upcoming tentpole. According to the outlet, Joss Whedon, who’s taken over for Zack Snyder, is making significant changes to the story and in particular, the ending. Originally, Justice League was going to conclude with a cliffhanger, which is now gone. As are the “elements of the story »

Silver & Black Reportedly Gets Early 2019 Release Date

Despite the fact that Sony has decided to confound us all by building a cinematic universe of their own comprised of Spider-Man’s supporting characters that doesn’t seem to actually be inhabited by the icon himself, it’s very hard not to look forward to a movie starring Black Cat and Silver Sable, even if it could use a better title than Silver & Black. Well, the film is bound to have more than a few detractors, regardless, but you can’t help being the slightest bit curious.

That being said, it looks like the studio won’t waste much time broadening this strange universe after Venom hits theaters on October 5, 2018. As it turns out, Exhibitor Relations states that Felicia Hardy and Silver Sablinova (yes, one of the titular characters’ names is actually that uninspired) will storm multiplexes on February 8, 2019 in what is already being called Marvel’s answer to Thelma & Louise. »

James Cameron On Why He’s Decided To Return To The Terminator Franchise

Ever since Paramount Pictures and Skydance pulled together to announce a new rendition of The Terminator, subsequently placing erstwhile Deadpool director Tim Miller in the driving seat, the question on everyone’s lips has been whether Arnie would return for more.

After all, the Austrian Oak distanced himself from the franchise – and understandably so – following the woeful Genisys, even going so far as to suggest that his days waging war against Skynet were long behind him. That was a few months ago, when NY Daily News reported that The Terminator and Schwarzenegger had effectively gone their separate ways after the studio pulled the plug on its planned Genisys trilogy.

Four weeks later, however, and Schwarzenegger’s involvement looked to be back on the cards, after the Hollywood veteran uttered that signature catchphrase to confirm that, yes, his towering android will have a role to play in The Terminator. The sequel »

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Will Solve The Mystery Of Rey’s Parents

Ever since we first met Rey in The Force Awakens, fans have wondered just where the talented proto-Jedi comes from. There’ve been a ridiculous amount of theories that have accumulated over the past couple of years – is she Luke’s daughter? Obi-Wan Kenobi’s? Snoke’s? – and after many teases, we now know that we’ll find out about Rey’s background when Star Wars: The Last Jedi rolls around on December 15th.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Rian Johnson had this to say on the matter, explaining that the importance of the answers comes down to how they impact the character:

“To me, it’s important insofar as it’s important to her. And I think it’s important to her in terms of what is her place in all of this? What’s going to define her in this story? She was told in the »

Several New It Photos Creep Online

Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Aka The Eater of Worlds) is not your typical movie monster.

Unlike, say, Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger, Stephen King’s shapeshifting abomination is able to manifest itself in a variety of different forms based on its target of choice. With an insatiable appetite for children (frightened flesh tastes better, apparently), Pennywise often masquerades as a wisecracking circus clown to lure in his prey, while King’s demon also has an unnatural ability to morph into a person’s greatest fears and nightmares, which only has us all the more intrigued for New Line and Andy Muschietti’s imminent adaptation.

We are, at the time of writing, about one month out from heralding the release of It, and following up on this week’s Empire reveal – wherein Bill Skarsgård voiced his desire to scare a “whole generation” with his “animalistic and instinctive” Pennywise – New Line has »

New Walking Dead Promo Welcomes Back The Show

11 August 2017 1:38 PM, PDT

Ahead of the show’s return in a couple months’ time, a new promo for The Walking Dead season 8 has landed online today, and you can give it a watch up above.

The short, 25 second video doesn’t actually feature any new footage, as it’s just a snippet from the trailer that was released back at Comic-Con. That being said, it does give us some awesome moments that we can’t wait to see in their proper context – Daryl charging through explosions on his motorcycle, Maggie talking about how she’s been fighting since the farm, Morgan vs. Jesus, etc.

The promo also sports the bold, but kind of true, claim that “The #1 show on television returns,” with the end reminding us that the premiere is the 100th episode of the zombie drama, with a message saying thanks to the fans who made it such a barn-storming success. Again, »

Peter Capaldi Says Doctor Who Actors Have “Responsibility” To The Fans

11 August 2017 12:20 PM, PDT

As has been said before, playing the Doctor is a role for life. Even after their tenure on Doctor Who is done, the show will always be the defining entry on the actor’s resume – plus, they’ll be guaranteed a place on the convention circuit for years to come. Current Time Lord Peter Capaldi says there’s something else that a Doctor Who star must carry around, though: a responsibility to be kind to their fans.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the outgoing Doctor talked about how, having once been a childhood fan of the show, he knows how much it means to meet your heroes:

“I think that there is clearly a responsibility, which is very easy to address, because people don’t really ask very much of you. They just like you to show up, and smile at them, and be nice. And actually that’s an incredibly pleasant place to be, »

Ben Affleck Discusses The Experience Of Working With Two Directors On Justice League

11 August 2017 11:43 AM, PDT

Admittedly, Justice League is a movie I’ve waited my entire life for, as it’s bringing several of my favorite characters together for the first time in live-action cinema. Likewise, I imagine that many of you reading this share that sentiment, hoping that the combined talents of directors Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon will make for a viewing experience like no other.

In the past few months, the subject of the reshoots this film continues to undergo has been a hot point for discussion, often being labeled by absolutist fanboys and conspiracy theorists as “fake news” or part of some “Dceu smear campaign” organized by the evil media.

Casting such hilarity aside, the fact of the matter is that reshoots began in June and are still currently ongoing, thus this is much more than what’s usually allotted to any sort of project. Most recently, actor Joe Morton confirmed »

Early Cut Of Justice League Deemed “Unwatchable,” Substantial Changes Being Made

11 August 2017 11:32 AM, PDT

Poor Justice League. No matter how much good Warner Bros. does, the upcoming pic just can’t catch a break. Even after the smashing success of Wonder Woman, and a thrilling Comic-Con trailer for Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon’s team-up film that was very promising, negative buzz continues to surround it. That doesn’t change today, either, with a follow-up report coming in that expands a bit on what we heard last night.

To recap, yesterday we learned that Warner Bros. was apparently unhappy with a few things in Justice League. Namely, the tone – which they felt was too dark – and the portrayal of Cyborg. Now, Batman-On-Film has added onto that, telling us that the situation is much worse than it appears. Here’s what they had to say:

These reshoots – which are still taking place – are not standard pick-ups/additional photography. Why? Apparently, an early cut of the film was deemed “unwatchable. »

Hellboy Creator Says Reboot Is “Much Darker” Than Previous Films

11 August 2017 11:05 AM, PDT

After being absent from cinemas for nearly a decade, it’s thrilling to hear that Hellboy will be making his triumphant return before long, albeit in the form of a reboot. Not only that, but we recently received confirmation that none other than Milla Jovovich has been cast as the main villain, joining David Harbour, the actor who has been recast in the title role.

But as cool as the first two films starring Ron Perlman were, diehard fans of the comic books voiced some complaints, hoping that future offerings would be more in line with the source material. Admittedly, the first flick to debut in 2004 was probably closer to Mike Mignola’s work, but it’s important to remember that it arrived slightly before what we’ve come to call “the Golden Age of Superhero Movies” actually kicked off, with Hollywood having been known to have taken generous creative liberties at that time. »

New Thor: Ragnarok Image Promises A Loki Vs. Valkyrie Showdown

11 August 2017 10:42 AM, PDT

In Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder will compile a ragtag team to defeat Hela the Goddess of Death (Aka Cate Blanchett) as she attempts to takeover Asgard. In addition to his “friend from work,” the Hulk, Thor will recruit the kickass Valkyrie and even his no-good brother Loki to stop the ensuing apocalypse. In this new glimpse at the upcoming Marvel movie, though, it looks like there will be some in-fighting within the group.

The image, which first cropped up on Instagram, depicts Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief and and Tessa Thompson’s warrior woman involved in what looks to be a fierce knife fight. While Loki’s no match for Valkyrie in physical combat, we imagine that the trickster will employ his usual holograms and misdirection techniques to give himself the upper hand in the battle.

As for why they’re fighting, it’s not too difficult to figure out. »

Donald Glover Recalls Billy Dee Williams’ Words Of Wisdom Ahead Of Han Solo Movie

11 August 2017 10:32 AM, PDT

Lando Calrissian, the smooth-talking smuggler of Cloud City and long-time friend to the great Han Solo, is one of the undisputed mainstays of the Star Wars franchise.

In 2018, Donald Glover (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Atlanta) will don the cape and stache as the young Lando, and despite his best efforts at disguise (fake nose included), the prolific actor and producer was spotted holding a secret meeting with Billy Dee Williams in order to wean some tips and tricks on how best to approach the character in question.

When asked to recount the advice given to him by Williams during an in-depth piece by The Hollywood Reporter, Glover then whittled the actor’s counseling down to three words of wisdom: “Just be charming.” And we couldn’t agree more.

I was like, ‘I’ve always felt like this character could do this, and he represents this, and I kind of feel like he comes from here, »

7 New Features We Can’t Wait To Try In Destiny 2

11 August 2017 10:19 AM, PDT

There’s not long left to wait now.

In just over a month’s time, Bungie’s long awaited sequel to Destiny will hit Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and nothing, not even a year-long delay, has managed to dampen the enthusiasm of Guardians the world over. Last year’s Rise of Iron, the excellent slice of ice-cold content that it was, served its purpose perfectly as a stop-gap side story to soften the 12 month wait for Destiny 2, but now, we’re ready to resign past adventures to memory and venture forth into the unknown all over again.

Gone, at last, is the arrogant Oryx and his galaxy-threatening horde of Taken monstrosities, replaced instead, with the Red Legion – the Cabal’s most elite squad of merciless brutes led by Dominus Ghaul. The battle-hardened goliath has a particular loathing of mankind and wastes no time in proving it by destroying Earth’s last line of defence, »
