New Jersey

The Drug Policy Alliance is dedicated to making New Jersey a leader in drug policy reform. New Jersey's ineffective and counterproductive drug policies have increased the harms related to drug use and wasted taxpayer money. DPA advocates for effective drug policies based on science, compassion, health and human rights in New Jersey and around the country.

Our Campaigns

Criminal Justice Reform
Over the last 15 years, New Jersey has reduced its prison population, crime rate and recidivism rate and has become a national leader in criminal justice reform. Despite this success, there is still more work to be done. DPA is currently working on bail reform implementation, parole reform, racial and ethnic impact statements, and asset forfeiture reform.

Marijuana Reform
Unequal application of the law and other harms of marijuana prohibition affect millions of New Jerseyans every year. DPA led the campaign to pass legislation which created New Jersey’s medical marijuana program. We are currently working on the New Solutions Marijuana Reform Campaign to legalize, tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol for adults in New Jersey.

Harm Reduction
DPA is working to reduce the harms associated with drug use and ineffective drug policies in New Jersey. Since 2003, we have successfully advocated for policies to prevent opioid overdose and expand access to life-saving sterile syringes that protect against HIV, hepatitis C, and other blood-borne diseases. Our current priorities include expanding access to the opioid overdose antidote naloxone, supporting the growth of the syringe access programs in New Jersey, and preventing the spread of Hepatitis C.
