Jeff Bezos Mandates Programming Shift at Amazon Studios (Exclusive)

10 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The mandate from Jeff Bezos is clear: Bring me “Game of Thrones.”

That’s the word that has the creative community buzzing this week about a major strategy shift underway for Amazon Studios’ original series efforts.

The CEO of the e-commerce giant is said to have tasked Amazon Studios chief Roy Price with honing the focus on high-end drama series with global appeal. Amazon’s decision this week to scrap plans for a second season of period drama “Z: The Beginning of Everything” reflects the new marching orders.

On Friday, Amazon confirmed five new projects — series greenlights for a period drama from Paul Attanasio and Wong Kar-wai and a comedy starring Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph; two comedy pilots; and a Seth Rogen-produced comic book adaptation eyed as a straight-to-series order — that reflect the drive to find shows that deliver sizzle in the water-cooler environs of social media and can travel around the world.

A Rocket-Powered Katana Sword Cuts Drone in Mid Flight

1 hour ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

When people have nothing else to do some crazy stuff can happen. Such as a drone being sentenced to death by a rocket-powered katana. Now I don’t know about you, but that sounds fairly medieval and even cruel even for a piece of machinery. The title is a little misleading since the drone is more or less in hover mode than it is in mid-flight. Without splitting too many hairs though it’s a little impressive that the blade manages to go halfway through the drone before hitting the battery case and essentially just pushing the drone the rest of the

Christopher Walken Reading “Good Night Moon” on The Simpsons

There’s something inherently creepy about listening to Christopher Walken reading anything, let alone a children’s story. But when he reads Goodnight Moon in the Simpsons it just kind of sets all the hairs on the back of your neck to tingling at once. He’s just an unnerving guy unless he’s trying to be nice, and even he’s kind of creepy in a hard to define sort of way. The thing is, that’s just awesome. He’s so creepy when he’s reading children stories that it’s downright funny and hard to replace. Something about his voice is just so infectious that once

What’s worse is to know that any given time the smiles and caresses you see in pictures could be entirely staged and the couple could actually detest one another in private. There have been plenty of sham marriages in Hollywood that were used just for publicity, and it’s still a shameful thing to think about. But there are those couples that have been together for a while that seem to be genuinely happy and in love with one another. Hollywood doesn’t

High Plains Drifter: One of the Most Underrated Westerns Ever

Hillary Clinton Says She ‘Maybe Missed a Few Chances’ During Presidential Campaign

Hillary Clinton sat down with “CBS Sunday Morning” anchor Jane Pauley in her first television interview about her new book, “What Happened.” The book chronicles her time running for the White House opposite Donald Trump, and she told Pauley that the moment the now-president started to follow her around the debate stage was “discombobulating.”

“While I’m answering questions, my mind is going, ‘Okay, do I keep my composure? Do I act like a president? Am I the person that people can trust in the end to make hard decisions? Or do I wheel around and say, ‘Get outta my space. Back up, you creep’? Well, you know, I didn’t do the latter,” Clinton said of the St. Louis debate.

While the extended interview will be broadcast on Sept. 10, a preview was featured tonight on the CBS Evening News. In it, Clinton also opened up about more general struggles during the campaign.
