This week we’re partnering with Hospice Austin and StoryCorps to hear stories of loss – from people who have died and people who’ve lost someone close to them.

We hear from Jan Phillips, a grief therapist for Hospice Austin. Before coming to work for Hospice, Jan lost both her husband to cancer and her son to an accident.

She’s interviewed here by her friend and colleague Nancy McCranie.

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.

This week, we’re partnering with Hospice Austin and StoryCorps to hear the stories of people affected by hospice care – the people who have been lost and those who have lost someone.

We begin today with 19-year-old Logan Brewster. He was in hospice care at the end of his battle with cancer. He spoke with Hospice Austin volunteer Tracey Weston shortly before his death.

Brooke and Clayton Hergert on Flying Halfway Around the World to Meet

StoryCorps was back in Austin in November, recording the stories of Central Texas veterans as part of their Military Voices Initiative.

Brooke and Clayton Hergert, who are both veterans, have been married almost eight years now and have two young sons. Their love story began in 2005, halfway across the world. While serving in Afghanistan, Clayton, a Special Operations Force member, was surprised to meet his new Army pilot, Captain Brooke Taylor.  

Jeffrey Moe and Brandon Barrera on Understanding

Jeffrey Moe recently shared his story with his friend Brandon Barrera. Jeffrey enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002, serving as an Arabic linguist during deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq.
