Citi® / AAdvantage® Gold World Elite™ Mastercard® (a NextAdvisor advertiser) is a good choice for those who would like to earn free flights on American Airlines. It will particularly suit anyone looking for a travel card that also offers a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers.
Card users will earn 1 mile per $1 spent on all purchases. The fact you don't earn extra miles when you purchase an American Airlines flight is a downgrade, and puts this card at a disadvantage when compared to most other branded travel cards, including other America Airlines cards we review. According to our Travel Rewards Credit Card Analysis, the miles you do earn have a free flight value of $1.32 for every $100 spent. Additional card perks include 25,000 bonus miles after spending $750 on purchases in the first 3 months, and 25% off in-flight food and beverage purchases on American Airlines. There is an annual fee of $50, waived for first 12 months*, which is a little on the high side for a card that doesn't reward its users for flying its airline.
