neill blomkamp to direct the gone world

After temporarily setting aside his film ambitions to focus on his experimental Oats Studios, Neill Blomkamp is set to return to the feature film world to helm an adaptation of the sci-fi thriller The Gone World.

Blomkamp is making a faster return to the feature films than I initially thought. It seemed like he was going through some sort of spiritual rediscovery, reminiscing over his missteps with his latest film Chappie and focusing all his creative energy on the short films and experimental projects of Oats Studios. But it seems that the allure of The Gone World is too strong, and Blomkamp is being pulled back into feature film directing.

The Empire Strikes Back - Han Solo

We knew all about the clashing of approaches between producer Kathleen Kennedy and original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller regarding Lucasfilm’s Han Solo spin-off film, but ever since Ron Howard took over the director’s chair, we’ve been wondering a lot about the film’s tone. Now, thanks to a new interview with one of its stars, we’ve learned that Solo may end up being one of the funnier Star Wars movies we’ve seen so far.

And speaking of Lord and Miller, we take a look at the Directors Guild of America rule that explains the timing of why they were fired with only three weeks left in principal photography.

This looks like a ridiculously fun B-movie, and I can’t wait to check it out. Watch the trailer below.

It movie runtime

Reporting on movie runtimes is an inherently silly thing. It’s not really news, but let’s face it: we’re all curious about which superhero movie will test our bladder next, and we’re all ready to start yelling into the void about why a movie about robots that turn into cars needs to be that close to three hours long. But sometimes, a movie’s length can feel genuinely interesting and revealing, like when we learned that The Dark Tower was 95 minutes long and everyone started wondering why a movie based on a series of massive books was so short.

But we’re here to talk about the other Stephen King adaptation hitting theaters in the coming months, which also comes packaged with some interesting runtime news. We now know how long Andy Muschietti‘s adaptation of It will run and it’s certainly going to prove interesting to both Stephen King fans and horror buffs.

Arrested Development Season 5 tease

Right now, there are two very different sides of Jason Bateman on the Netflix homepage. The stark contrast between Bateman’s face on the Arrested Development and Ozark options under Netflix Originals amuses me every time, but it’s also a reminder of the actor’s range. After telling one bleak family crime story, he’s returning to star in what started as a family crime story, Arrested Development.

Below, check out the Arrested Development season 5 tease from Bateman.
