D.C. War Memorial Restoration
Improving D.C.'s only World War I Memorial
The restoration of the only monument or memorial on the National Mall dedicated to those who protected the United States in World War I took place in 2010.
Originally intended to be a bandstand, deferred maintenance had caused the D.C. World War I Memorial, located in the Ash Woods just east of the Korean War Memorial, to be deemed unusable.
Renovation efforts allowed for visitors to utilize this space for myriad of purposes, as restoration experts restored the memorial to its original brilliant white color, installed new pathways and lighting systems, and laid out a more functional landscape. All of these updates allow for a beautiful, more accessible, and safer memorial.
