During a Facebook Live with Kevin Smith aboard the #IMDboat at Comic-Con 2017, comic-book creator Todd McFarlane dropped an exclusive: He's working with producer Jason Blum on a new Spawn movie. What's better: McFarlane has a draft of the script ready to go, he'll be making his directorial debut on the project, which will certainly be a hard-R vision of his former mercenary turned reluctant soldier of the devil.

‘Dunkirk’ Takes $8.6 Million in Early International Openings

Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk” has grossed $8.6 million from its first two days in 31 international markets.
France is the leading market with $1.8 million on 668 screens in its first two days, followed by South Korea with $1.6 million on its opening day on Thursday at 1,252 locations. The Korean results were in line with Nolan’s “Interstellar” and above “Gravity” and “American Sniper.”
“Dunkirk,” based on the 1940 evacuation of 300,000 stranded Allied troops from France, stars Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, and Harry Styles. Film critics have already offered extensive praise for the cinematography, direction, acting, and musical score.
Nolan shot most of “Dunkirk” in France and California. The Warner Bros. release has a price tag of $150 million.

Dwayne Johnson will not appear in the upcoming superhero film Shazam!, according to DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns.
"We haven't announced any casting yet," Johns told Yahoo Movies. "But Dwayne isn't going to be in this movie. He's still doing Black Adam, but he won't be in Shazam!"

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail will write, and is attached to direct, a new take on Universal's Bermuda Triangle project.
Earlier drafts of the untitled project were written by Miles Millar & Alfred Gough, and Juliet Snowden & Stiles White. Details of the plot are being kept under wraps. The mysterious Caribbean area known as the Bermuda Triangle stretches between the Florida Straits, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. Over the years, several ships and planes have disappeared in the area under mysterious circumstances. Theories about paranormal or alien causes have long swirled around these strange disappearances.

Rome – George Clooney’s “Suburbicon,” Guillermo Del Toro’s “The Shape of Water,” Stephen Frears’ “Victoria and Abdul,” and Paolo Virzi’s “Ella and John,” starring Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland, are among the titles strongly tipped to world premiere at the upcoming 74th Venice Film Festival.
Also expected to make their worldwide bows on the Lido are Paul Schrader’s “First Reformed,” Andrew Haigh’s “Lean on Pete,” and Lucrecia Martel’s “Zama.”
Less than a week before the official announcement, the buzz on the Venice lineup remains somewhat muted, though some locked-in titles have surfaced, including Alexander Payne’s “Downsizing,” which will open the fest. Paramount has moved up the release dates of mother! and Suburbicon, positioning both films for a longer awards run.
Darren Aronofsky's horror film mother!, starring Jennifer Lawrence, will get a wide release on Sept. 15, opposite the wide releases of Open Road's Blake Lively drama All I See is You and Lionsgate's Michael Keaton actioner American Assassin, as well as the Annapurna comedy Brad's Status directed by Mike White, IFC's J.D. Rome – Oscar winner Kevin Spacey is playing writer Gore Vidal in a new Netflix original biopic, “Gore,” which is in production in Italy.
U.S. director Michael Hoffman (“The Last Station”) is helming the 1980s-set film about the late American author, playwright, and occasional political candidate. “Gore” is currently shooting in Rome but will move next month to Vidal’s longtime villa in Ravello, a village on the Amalfi Coast, sources tell Variety.
British producer Andy Paterson (“Girl with a Pearl Earring”) is producing “Gore” for Netflix.

Because “Twin Peaks” creators David Lynch and Mark Frost were unable to attend the series’ Comic-Con panel in San Diego, the director created a video greeting for the fans.
And, as you can imagine, it was beyond words. But since the short film has yet to be released, we’ll try to do it justice.
Lynch’s message never got past a simple greeting — “Good afternoon ladies and gentleman” — but he made the most of a static camera in a dark room. Pointed at the director sitting in a wooden chair, Lynch kept getting distracted by action offscreen.
