State Information
States are critical players in preventing prescription opioid overdoses. States run prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs), regulate controlled substances, license health care providers, and run large public insurance programs such as Medicaid and Workers Compensation programs.
Empowering and equipping states with the resources and information they need to combat prescription opioid abuse and overdose is the heart of the CDC Injury Center’s work on this epidemic.
