Hitting
Hitting Basics
Hitting a baseball is one of the most profoundly difficult tasks across any sport. Every coach has a unique style when it comes to coaching hitters, and while each player's swing will be slightly different and individualized, there are a number of basic fundamentals that are the building blocks for every player's swing.
Hitting, Plain and Simple
Hitting: It's everybody's favorite. Many people believe there is no such thing as too many swings, and you will hardly ever have trouble finding a time when players don't want to hit. But just like every other skill in the game, hitting should be taught in a building-block progression starting first with the ability to simply make contact.
Common Mechanical Errors of the Hitter
It could take players months, years and in some cases decades to master this skill. Players, along with their coaches, must understand and practice proper swing mechanics over and over to become an accomplished hitter.
Application of Hitting Drills
A drill is a way of teaching and developing skills through repetition. The best drills not only serve as great tools for skill development, but also keep players engaged and active during practice sessions.
Pre-Pitch Preparation for Hitters
A batter's success is closely linked to the level of confidence he feels at the plate. As with any other aspect of the game, mental preparation goes a long way to determining the outcome of any given at-bat.
