The {{PMID}} template is used to create a link from a PMID codes for life sciences and biomedical articles to PubMed.
As of May 2017, Wikipedia software recognizes inline PMID codes for life sciences and biomedical articles and automatically creates a search link to PubMed, much as it does for ISBNs for books (see Wikipedia:ISBN). No template is required to enable this feature, but this feature will be disabled at some point. See Help:Magic links for links to more information.
It is important when making a link to have only a space after "PMID" followed by the numbers; do not use the colon which is present in PubMed citations.

Multiple PMIDs[edit]
The above automatic recognition will work only for single PMIDs. If, however, multiple PMIDs need to be listed in a row (for example in a table), this can be accomplished using the {{PMID3}} template.

In citation templates[edit]
A single PMID can also be included in templates such as the Citation Style 1 series by means of the |pmid= parameter. Integer values starting at 1 are allowed.
The linking is done internally to the template using a module or a subtemplate. The "PMID" string links to the article "PubMed", and the PMID number acts like a magic link.
