Is X-Men: Dark Phoenix Bringing Back Psylocke?

7 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the second theatrical adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga, is bringing back a lot of familiar faces, from "First Class" era mainstays like Professor X and Mystique to younger mutant heroes like Cyclops and Storm. All of the established characters who have been announced so far for X-Men: Dark Phoenix were on relatively good terms with one another when X-Men: Apocalypse ended, but that streak may be over, as it looks like Olivia Munn could be reprising Psylocke for the seventh main X-Men installment. »

‘Tron’ at 35: Star Jeff Bridges, Creators Detail the Uphill Battle of Making the CGI Classic

18 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Disney’s “Tron,” the granddaddy of CGI animated films, celebrates its 35th anniversary on July 9. And over the decades, the sci-fi adventure has spawned video games, the 2010 movie sequel “Tron: Legacy,” a high-tech ride at Shanghai Disney, an animated series, and even talk of a possible third sequel with Oscar winner Jared Leto in early talks to star.

And “Tron” has influenced CGI animators worldwide. In fact, Disney/Pixar’s John Lasseter has acknowledged that “Without ‘Tron,’ there would be no ‘Toy Story.’”

But back in 1982, not only did “Tron” receive mixed reviews from critics and audiences, Hollywood didn’t welcome the film, which paid homage to “The Wizard of Oz” and “Metropolis,” with open arms.

“It certainly wasn’t the reaction we expected,” said Steven Lisberger, who wrote and directed the film starring Jeff Bridges as computer games creator who finds himself zapped inside a power hungry Master Control program after he hacks into the mainframe »

Jeremy Renner said Friday that he “broke his arms” during a stunt on “Avengers: Infinity War,” which is filming.

Speaking at a Karlovy Vary Film Festival press conference on Friday for Taylor Sheridan’s “Wind River,” the actor said he fractured his right elbow and his left wrist. “That’s how it goes,” Renner said. “It’s part of the job.”

Smiling wryly, Renner said the injury wouldn’t affect his job. “I’m sort of a problem solver, you know. There will be an effect to it, but it won’t stop me from doing things that I need to be doing,” said Renner, who is due to star in the next “Bourne” movie. “I’ll heal fast. I’m doing everything I can to heal faster.”

The actor, who has appeared in action films like “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” said: “I’m doing a job that isn’t really requiring a ton of stunts. It »

Georgian Filmmaker Mariam Khatchvani on Capturing a Vanishing Culture in ‘Dede’

33 minutes ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Dede” is Georgian filmmaker Mariam Khatchvani’s testimonial to a people, a way of life and a region that is rapidly changing, and a culture that is in some ways disappearing. Khatchvani is a native of Ushguli, a community and Unesco World Heritage Site located in Svaneti, a region in northwestern Georgia, high in the Greater Caucasus mountains. She spoke with Variety about her feature film debut, which captures the old world traditions of the Svan people and their endangered language as well as the harsh climate and natural beauty that surrounds them. “Dede,” which screened in Karlovy Vary’s East of the West competition, centers on a young woman who challenges centuries of tradition when she falls in love with the “wrong” man.

Karlovy Vary Review: ‘Falling’

3 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

There’s no more fascinating image in cinema than the human face. But we’ve come a long way since French theorist Roland Barthes waxed lyrical about Garbo’s “mask-like” visage. We’ve gazed into a lot of actors’ eyes, drowned in a lot of delirious closeups. So to be forcibly reminded of that simple image’s connective power is a rare thing these days, and it takes a filmmaker of uncannily focused talent — that, and a remarkable face to be looked at. In her delicate yet daring narrative feature debut, Ukrainian director Marina Stepanska gives us three such faces, and the hesitant, hushed love story and intergenerational drama of her film exists in the clarity and mystery of those fathomless features.

Falling” has a plot: Anton (Andriy Seletskiy), an astonishingly blue-eyed, talented, erstwhile musician, returns to live with his astonishingly blue-eyed grandfather (Oleg Mosiychuk) in an isolated house in the countryside outside Kiev after an unspecified »

Ringo Starr’s Birthday Celebration: Peace, Love and Unbearable Heat

Jacob Batalon Ready for Big Time With ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Debut

For the past nine years, Oscar winners and nominees like Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper and, in 2019, Brie Larson have poured into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is an odd duck in the McU canon, and not just because it’s coming from Columbia Pictures rather than Disney. While Michael Keaton brings his chops to the film as a blue-collar villain with a “Birdman”-esque suit, it is a stable of rising young actors, led by 21-year-old Tom Holland as Spidey himself, that will be in the long haul for the sequels to come rather than the A-listers that have held. »
