Where we are in England
We have two safe campuses in the heart of the UK, 30 miles apart
Where is the University of Derby located?
Derby Campus
Derby is bustling city about an hour and a half away from London by train, and an hour from Birmingham. The University of Derby is located a few minutes from the city centre.
Buxton Campus
Buxton is a picturesque small town in the middle of beautiful Peak District countryside, about an hour from Derby and Manchester. The University of Derby is located in the heart of the town at the Devonshire Dome.
England is part of the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom also includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Although they're officially separate countries, there are no barriers at the borders and you don't need to carry your passport to travel between them.
England is a really multicultural country, so you will meet people from many different backgrounds and nations while you're here.
English people are usually open, welcoming, tolerant, polite and friendly.
Our weather
The climate in England is variable - the temperature can drop to around 0ºC in the winter, and reach 30ºC on some days in the summer, but it won't be that hot all the time. It rains quite often too, so you will need warm and waterproof clothing.
Derbyshire
Derby and Buxton are both located in the central English county of Derbyshire.
Derbyshire is an area that offers a high standard of living and great employment prospects, but is among the least expensive places to live in the UK.
The county also contains the Peak District National Park with moorland, woodland and hills, and the popular tourist towns of Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock.
There are lots of opportunities to get out and about
So if you enjoy activities like rock climbing, horse riding, pot holing, paragliding or water sports you will be in the right place. And there are some great places to visit nearby including Alton Towers - the biggest theme park in Europe - Chatsworth House and the caverns in Castleton.
If you like sport, you will find lots to do in Derbyshire
Pride Park Stadium is the home of Derby County Football Club and our multi use arena and velodrome which hosts cycling, badminton and entertainment events, and Derby is at the centre of the Sustrans national cycle route and the home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
