Environmental and Sustainability Champions

Environmental groups

To more easily divide up tasks and develop our actions and objectives we have groups that work on the overall environmental aims and report back to the Office to the Vice-Chancellor. These are as follows:

Environmental Compliance Group

This group aims to ensure that the University remains compliant with our Environmental Management System and maintains our BSI ISO 14001 2015 accreditation.

Chair: Professor Malcolm Todd

Sustainability Innovation and Ideas Forum

Chair: Till Roething

Aims of the forum are to:

• Encourage members to hold the University to account in relation to environmental objectives which are stated
• Review documents and reports which are created to highlight any environmental work which is completed
• Provide a forum for members to raise issues, ideas, and innovations, which can then be discussed within the relevant departments for feasibility

Biodiversity Group

Chair: Anne Danby

This group is tasked with working on the objectives of our Biodiversity Action Plan and help promote our biodiversity to staff and students. Their objectives are:

• Produce action plans and land management plans for all sites linked to the BAP
• Create a directory of suitable trees/plants for our sites and what biodiversity they encourage
• Ensure that land management plan records are updated as work is carried out
• Review the success of bird and bat boxes
• Encourage staff/students to do ecological surveys and research projects which relate to biodiversity
• Create a directory of local wildlife groups and our links to them
• Produce a guide to the biodiversity of our sites for staff and students

Responsible Futures Group

Chair: Chris Ribchester

This group is tasked with working on embedding sustainability into everything we do at the university, whether that be through sustainable procurement or education for sustainable development.
