Experience in industry

Prior to moving into teaching and research, I worked for 17 years in industry, initially as a management accountant, later moving into Finance Director and Managing Director roles. My background is in the automotive industry and encompassed a variety of roles and projects, such as feasibility studies, accounting, finance, company secretarial, purchasing and logistics optimisation and company startups. The majority of my experience is overseas, in countries such as Germany, Poland, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Slovenia and China. The latter experience involved being the Managing Director for a company start up in northern China for two years, taking the company from an idea on a spreadsheet through site selection, design, build and selection and training of employees leading to a fully functioning manufacturing and machining facility supplying customers both internally in China and also exporting to the US.

I have also been a Non-Executive Board member of a NHS Primary Care Trust and a not-for-profit Housing Association.
