Mr Nick Hughes

I am a Senior Lecturer in the College of Education.

I am part of the Further Education Collaborations team that is responsible for the co-ordination of the Foundation Degree in Children's and Yound People's Services. The programme is delivered exclusively by our Collaborative Partners. We work very closley in this partnership, to guarantee an outstanding student experience across the growing partnership. 

I am also a member of the BA (Hons) Education Studies team and I currently teach on several modules. In addition, I am also an Independent Studies supervisor, providing pastoral support to Stage 3 students during their dissertation experience.

Since joining UoD, I have also been a member of the university's PGCE Post-14 team, teaching, securing teaching placements, observing trainees, providing pastoral care and helping to prepare trainees for teaching roles, in a wide range of post-compulsory providers. During my tenure with the team, the programme was graded Outstanding in all catergories, under the new inspection framework by Ofsted.   

In addition to my FE Collaborations role, I also currently teach on the following BA (Hons) Education Studies modules:

• Education for All? Exploring Inequality
• Individual Differences and Learning
• Educational Indepenedent Studies 

I have a passion for the design, delivery and management of contemporary education, the creation and development of collaborative partnerships in times of transition and also the significance of the pastoral role in maintaining student health and wellbeing.

This is influenced by my professional interests in curriculum studies, collaborative relationships, and health and wellbeing.

Collaborative working, the role of pastoral care in education and the importance of complimentary thearpies, including yoga in student and staff wellbeing.

I am also a British Wheel of Yoga qualified yoga teacher.

After previous `lives' in the Civil Service and the Leisure and Tourism industry, I have been working within education ever since I qualified with a PGCE in 2001. During my time in education, I have worked in four of the sectors, Secondary, Further Education, Higher Education in Further Education and Higher Education. 

Therefore, during my teaching career I have worked with a varied range of ages and levels of students. From 2009, I have specialised in teaching Education and Intial Teacher Education, using my experience and skills to help undergraduates and teacher trainees.
