20 Years of Being Your Internet HIV/AIDS Oral Healthcare Resource

June 18, 2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the debut of HIVdent.org (HIV Dental Alliance)! We at HIVdent will never be able to sufficiently thank our numerous colleagues, faculty, supporters and the people we have been able to assist. I do want to mention our founding Treasurer, Jacque Muther; and Vice President, Helene Bednarsh, without whom this effort may have never come to be. None of this would have been possible without our initial web designer Jim Maddox and Delane McKinely who has keep the site up and running for these past 20 years. We would also be remiss not to thank our sponsors, notably Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals ( both present and past - John Booher, Jerry Smith, Chris Fox and the one and only "Colgate Lady" - Mrs. Shirley Youngs, that have supported this effort since the very beginning!

"Test Your Way. Do It Today"

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in seven people in the United States who are infected with HIV don’t know they have it. Knowing one’s HIV status provides powerful information. People who test positive for HIV can take medicines to keep them healthy and to greatly reduce their chance of passing HIV to others. But the only way to know for sure if someone has HIV is to get tested.

On June 27th—National HIV Testing Day—people nationwide are encouraged to learn their HIV status. CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care. People with certain risk factors should get tested more often.
