This short satin robe in pewter has a pretty rose pattern and delicate lace on the sleeves and hem. Stopping at knee-length, it may not be as cosy as other gowns we tried but the satin is incredibly comfortable and the fit is flattering. It comes in sizes eight to 18.

Incredibly light against your skin, this short silk robe in slate grey probably won’t keep you that warm, but who cares when it looks so good? The silk feels gorgeous against your skin, and the lace edge detailing on the sleeves give it that added touch of glamour. Also available in ‘Midnight’, a rich blue, and ‘Old Rose’, which is a wonderful pink blush colour. Available in sizes extra small through to large.
5. Asos fluffy cloud robe: £28.00, Asos
This dressing gown is cute and fun, mainly due to the animal ears on the hood which have been spotted repeatedly on dressing gowns this season. It’s well insulated with soft touch fabric and is fluffy on the outside with a felty-style inside. It comes up just above the knee, fitting with the cute style of the gown, and is available in both cream and blue – a steal at £28.00.
6. Agent Provocateur Classic Dressing Gown: £275, Agent Provocateur
Made from 100 per cent silk, the luxurious feeling of the gown against your skin reflects the price tag. The robe will make you feel like a princess, which is great for those lounging mornings or early evenings. However, as much as you could lounge around in the house in it, you probably wouldn’t take the bins out in it. The gown is classy and elegant and you could probably get away with wearing it as outerwear to cover a little black dress on a night out given the resurgence of kimonos on the high street. Given the hefty price tag, this robe would be good for a very generous, special gift. Available in five sizes from XS to XL.
7. Boux Avenue Frances Satin Robe: £50, Boux Avenue
Another gown from Boux Avenue but this time a classic, long black satin one that just oozes glamour. The lace trim sleeves add some pretty detail, while the tie at the waist cinches in adding some old-school elegance. This is definitely the sauciest gown we tried.
8. Rosie for Autograph Satin Trim Hooded Dressing Gown: £40, M&S
This gown is so fluffy, cosy and warm it feels like you have a blanket wrapped around you at all times. It provides a thick layer of clothing, perfect for those cold, winter mornings and a thick hood to make sure the cold does not reach your head either. Just because it’s cosy it doesn’t mean style is lost though. The gown has a gorgeous shimmer effect which compliments the black, pink and deep purple colours it comes in. This is one of the longer gowns on the list coming down to the calves.
