The transfer window is just over the horizon and the rumour mill is cranking well and truly into gear.

Manchester United have money to spend - and have already signed Victor Lindelof for £35m - but may be forced to shell out as much as £70m for both Alvaro Morata, while Andrea Belotti looks like he will stay at Torinio.

Chelsea's main man, Diego Costa, looks like he will be on his way after being told he is surplus to requirements by manager Antonio Conte.

Manchester City already have two players with Monaco's Bernardo Silva and Benfica goalkeeper Ederson in through the door, while Arsenal have snapped up Schalke's Sead Kolasinac on a free.

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Mohamed Salah as they continue to negotiate with Roma over a fee but won't be adding Virgil van Dijk after being forced to apologise to Southampton for an illegal approach.

Everton are the big spenders so far in the window, signing Jordan Pickford from Sunderland for £30m while Ajax's Davy Klaassen for £23.6m.

Hello and welcome to The Independent's live transfer blog!

The transfer window is just over the horizon and the rumour mill is cranking well and truly into gear with teams up and down the country attempting to get their business done as early as they can this summer.

Stay with us here throughout the day to keep up to date with the latest transfer news, updates gossip and rumours from the Premier League and around the rest of Europe.
There's no doubting what the big subject of the day/week/month/year is.

This man.

Read all about his very intriguing situation below:

Manchester United’s new signing Victor Lindelof has said he agreed to sign for the club after speaking to manager Jose Mourinho over the phone.

Lindelof was officially confirmed as a United player on Wednesday after a £30.7m fee for the defender was agreed with Benfica on Saturday.

And although Mourinho insisted in the wake of United’s Europe League victory last month that all transfer matters would be left to the club hierarchy, the Swedish 22-year-old revealed how the Portuguese rang him in a bid to convince him to join the Manchester club.

Chelsea are understood to be relaxed about stories indicating Antonio Conte is ready to walk away from the club.

The title-winning coach is reportedly frustrated at the lack of incoming transfers secured by the Stamford Bridge club this summer, and is said to be holding off extending his contract until certain conditions are met.

Conte is currently on holiday, his first since agreeing to take over in the spring of 2016, and expected sporting director Michael Emenalo and transfer negotiator Marina Granovskaia to strengthen the squad in his absence.

Mohamed Salah could finalise his move to Liverpool by the end of the week after his agent arrived in England.

The former Chelsea winger is understood to have agreed personal terms with the Reds already with only a transfer fee between the Merseyside club and Roma.

Liverpool are willing to make Salah their most expensive ever signing at £35m but the Serie A side are holding out for closer to £40m.

Roma must balance their books by the end of June, according to Corriere dello Sport, and the sale of Salah to the Reds would do just that, with the Italian club already having lined up a replacement for the 24-year-old in Swedish teenager Teddy Bergqvist from Malmo.

And his agent, Ramy Abbas, dropped a huge hint that the deal would be completed imminently.

Manchester United could be going back to Benfica for a second time this summer to sign Anderson Talisca, after the midfielder claimed Jose Mourinho “loves” him.

Victor Lindelof completed his £35m move to Old Trafford from the Portuguese club on Wednesday to become the club’s first summer signing, but it is understood Mourinho also wants a central midfielder, along with a striker and a winger.

Lindelof is the first player United have signed from Benfica, with the likes of Renato Sanchez and Nicolas Gaitan escaping them, but Talisca is seemingly keen to become the second in a matter of days.

Front-runner Thomas Tuchel is not understood to be interested in taking over at Southampton as the club searches for a successor toClaude Puel.

The German is one of European coaching's hottest young properties and is available, having left Borussia Dortmund in May.

But Tuchel is understood to be on the lookout for a Champions League club with which to resume his career, and is happy to wait for the right opportunity to come along.

Paulo Dybala must leave Juventus if he is to fulfil his potential, his teammate Dani Alves has claimed, risking the wrath of his club.

The former Barcelona full-back has only played with the Argentina international for a season but saw his undoubted quality as Juve marched to another Serie A title and a Champions League final.

Dybala is considered by some in his homeland as Lionel Messi's heir and that train of thought extends to Barcelona too, where the former Palermo and Instituto de Cordoba forward has a glut of admirers.

Which is why Dani Alves' comments may not be necessarily very welcome in Turin.

Frank De Boer, the bookmakers' favourite for the Southamptonjob, is not understood to be in contention to replace Claude Puel

Former Ajax and Inter Milan head coach De Boer had talks with Crystal Palace over their vacancy last week but is believed to still be waiting for a response from the Selhurst Park club, who are hoping to appoint Sam Allardyce's replacement next week.

Mauricio Pellegrino is known to be in the mix for both vacancies and reports in his native Argentina this week claimed he is close to sealing the Palace role.

Manchester United have been quoted £50million for Tottenham's Eric Dier.

Jose Mourinho is keen to add a defensive midfielder with the Spurs and England man understood be an option.

But the Daily Telegraph report that they will have to pay a steep price if they are to get him this summer.

Monaco duo Fabinho and Tiemoue Bakayoko are also being considered with a move for Chelsea's Nemanja Matic also possible.

Chelsea have seen a "very good" offer for Juventus' Alex Sandro rejected.

The Premier League title-winning Blues are in the market for reinforcements with Antonio Conte keen to bolster a squad that must contend with the added stresses of European football next term.

Conte has been linked with a move for Juve’s Sandro with the Italian press suggesting last week the Serie A champions had turned down an offer worth as much as £58m.

And the club’s general director, Giuseppe Marotta, confirmed they have turned down interest from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Eden Hazard has tried to play down speculation that he is about to move away from Stamford Bridge by describing how settled he feels with his Chelsea "family".

The Belgium international scored 17 goals and provided five assists to help Chelsea win the Premier League title and reach the FA Cup final last season.

Reports have linked the playmaker, who joined Chelsea in 2012, with a big money move to Spanish champions Real Madrid but Hazard said he feels at home at Stamford Bridge.

Former club president Joan Laporta has revealed that Barcelona once nearly sold Lionel Messi to Inter Milan.

“It was 2006 when Inter made an offer," he told the Guardian.

“They were prepared to pay the €150m buy-out clause, which is why we [later] raised it to €250m, but I always felt reassured by my relationship with his dad, Jorge.

“I told him: ‘They’ll have to pay the clause because I won’t sell. He’ll be happy here, he’ll get glory. There, he’ll only win financially. Your son’s destined to be the greatest in history and here he’ll have a team to help get there. He’ll enjoy it’.”

A done deal from the Championship with Hibernian's Jason Cummings joining Nottingham Forest.

Lyon are expecting competition from various clubs as they hold "advanced talks" to sign midfielder Bertrand Traore from Chelsea.

The 21-year-old, who made 12 appearances for the Premier League champions  in the 2015-16 season, was loaned out to Ajax lastterm, where he scored 13 goals to help them reach the Europa League final and finish second in the Dutch league.

"We want to bring Bertrand Traore to the club," club president Jean-Michel Aulas told reporters at a press conference to unveil the club's newly signed defender Fernando Marcal.

"There are advanced talks there, but many clubs are interested. We absolutely want to do the deal."

The Burkina Faso international signed a new three-year contract at Chelsea in 2016.

We have another done deal involving the Scottish Premiership and this time it's Celtic.

They have signed Aberdeen's Jonny Hayes on a three-year deal.
Are Monaco making plans to sell some of their first team stars to the Premier League?

Midfield duo Fabinho and Timeoue Bakayoko have been strongly linked with Manchester United and Chelsea so far this summer.

And it appears the French champs could well have their replacement already.

Having already signed Youri Tielemans this offseason they've now added French defensive midfielder Soualiho Meite from Zulte Waregem too.
Liverpool are expected to be busy this summer as they bid to build a squad capable of competing in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Roma's Mohamed Salah is likely to be the first of as many as seven new faces - but how could they line-up once Jurgen Klopp has got his business done?

Willy Caballero's expected move to Chelsea could be hijacked at the last minute by newly promoted Newcastle.

The Magpies are in the market for a new shotstopper with Caballero, recently released by Manchester City, apparently on their radar.

"We have some offers from England, he wants to stay in England," his agent told Goal.

"Newcastle is cold but pretty and the beaches in Brighton are beautiful as well and easily accessible from London.

"There isn't an offer from Boca. To analyse it, first, we need an offer. It needs be real first [before we consider a move to Buenos Aires]."

Ronaldo latest

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes that Cristiano Ronaldo’s “love” for Manchester United could play a crucial role in bringing the forward back to the club, eight years after he first left to move to Spain.

Calderon, who brought the Portuguese to Real in 2009, has suggested that the player’s 'love' for the 'club, the fans, the city' could see him sign for Jose Mourinho.
