The Independent Online

Make bedtime a little easier by investing in some sheets the kids will want to climb into every night. Whether they love animals or outer space, we’ve found some fun bedding that’s also comfy to sleep in. And everyone appreciates soft fabric to cuddle up to at night, so we’ve picked out sheets that are made of cotton – or at least have a large percentage of cotton in them.

Toddlers need a bed set to snooze in too, so we’ve also found a few mini duvet covers that will look good in any nursery. And you don’t necessarily need to spend a small fortune for quality sheets; we’ve found ones to suit all budgets.

1. Sleepy Monster Teal: £44.99, Sleepy Monster

monster-bedding2.jpg

This brand has come up with a lovely idea to encourage kids to make their bed. A sleepy monster is printed on the duvet cover and pillow case – one side shows him awake and the other asleep. Little ones will love turning over their bed set each morning to wake monster or at night to put him to sleep, and you’re left with a well-made bed. Made from 100 per cent cotton, it’s available in teal, red and black.

Berlin-based Noé & Zoë has a stylish collection of children’s bedding and accessories, from plump cloud scatter cushions to cotton wash bags. Our favourite bed set though is this hand-stamped star design that reverses to stripes when your little one fancies a change. There’s a standard size single duvet cover, pillow case and cushion case (40cmx40xm) included and it’s made from 100 per cent organic cotton, so feels soft against the skin. It’s a beautiful set that kids will enjoy wriggling into at the end of the day, and will keep mum happy style-wise.

From backpacks to tablecloths, this brand designs products you can doodle on and wash off when you’re ready to start over again. Little ones will love getting creative before bed with this around-the-world themed duvet cover. It comes with a pack of 10 double-ended wash-out fabric pens so they can colour in countries and animals without making any permanent mess. You have to buy the matching pillow case separately (£10.50) if you want a full set and the duvet cover is 140cmx200cm, which is slightly bigger than a standard single duvet cover. It’s a fun way to get the kids using their imagination though and there’s a notebook version to doodle on if you’d prefer.

Send them off to space with this themed bed set from high street favourite Next. Great for little explorers, one side is covered with constellations, planets, moons and rockets, while the reverse is covered in stars. It also glows in the dark, which is a great way to encourage lights out at bed time, but don’t worry it’s not bright enough to keep them awake. It’s a polyester/cotton mix that comes with a pillow case and duvet cover. There’s also matching wallpaper and curtains available, which is useful if you’re looking to redecorate the whole room.
