Ice Cube to Bill Maher: ‘Is This a Political Show or Is It a Show About Jokes?’ (Video)

Ice Cube cut right to the chase when he appeared on “Real Time With Bill Maher” Friday night telling the host, “I knew you was gonna f–k up sooner or later.” The rapper was referencing, of course, Maher’s use of the n-word while interviewing Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska on last week’s show. Cube was there to promote the release of his album “Death Certificate” for its 25th anniversary and also to talk about Maher’s transgression. “I love your show. You got a great show,” Cube said. “You know, but you been bucking up against that line a little bit. »

Bill Maher Recovers From N-Word Debacle But What Has He Learned? (Column)

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

On Friday’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host stood in front of a cheering audience and tried to craft a mea culpa. On last week’s show, Maher dropped the phrase “house n—–” as a joke during an interview with Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse, and since then, he’s been trying to make amends.

HBO issued a strongly worded statement about Maher’s use of the phrase, and Maher himself apologized. It’s not like Maher to regret insensitivity — he prides himself on political incorrectness and often mocks the apology tours of other public figures. But Maher’s use of the racial slur merited a serious response.

At least as far as airtime goes, “Real Time” went a long way towards addressing Maher’s use of the slur. The opening segment of the live show was a one-on-one conversation with Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson, author of “Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to »

The teaser trailer for “Black Panther” didn’t give too much in the way of plot details, but it was full of tidbits. Here’s what we gleaned at the first look at Marvel’s upcoming superhero movie. He opens the trailer with a monologue about the true nature of Wakanda. It’s the fabled city of El Dorado, and the country’s third-world appearance to the rest of the planet is just a front to hide its true nature. Bill Maher: Kathy Griffin ‘Owes Me a Fruit Basket for Getting Her Off the Front Page’ (Video)

More than a week after Kathy Griffin posted a photo holding what appeared to be the severed head of President Trump, Bill Maher came to his fellow comedian’s defense on Friday night’s “Real Time.” Maher found himself in his own tub of hot water after using the N-word during an interview last week, which drew some attention from the hole Griffin had dug for herself with the Trump stunt. On Friday, Maher explained that comedians are wired to make people laugh and, in the process, frequently cross the line. He gave Griffin as an example. “My friend Kathy Griffin, »

'Black Panther': Why the Teaser Trailer Could Be Marvel's Best Timing Yet

5 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

The most surprising thing about the first teaser for Marvel's Black Panther is, on first viewing, how closely it hews to Warner Bros' Wonder Woman, rather than any previous Marvel Studios production.

It's not merely the fact that, like Wonder Woman, it serves an audience traditionally ignored by the white, male superhero movie genre, nor the fact that — again, like Wonder Woman — it looks more colorful than its studio brethren, or at least colorful in a different, warmer manner. Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy is a colorful movie, but garishly so; the same can be said of Warners' »

One of the more memorable scenes from the first season of IFC’s “Brockmire” featured Hank Azaria’s character, Jim Brockmire, running the bases sans clothing during a bender.
