OREGON'S BEST HIGH SCHOOL PITCHERS
Last week we examined the state's most-feared hitters. Today, it's the pitchers' turn.
Who are the top aces in Oregon high school baseball and softball? Here's a look at some of the obvious candidates.
There are a number of great pitchers out there, and we haven't had the opportunity to see all of them, so keep in mind that this list is not meant to be comprehensive. Let us know in the comments section who else is worthy of consideration!

Sarah Abramson, Putnam, senior
Pete Christopher | The Oregonian/OregonLive
Abramson is hitting .302 and bats cleanup for Putnam, but she does even more damage in the circle. She twice has been named Class 5A first team all-state and was once named 5A pitcher of the year. She fired a perfect game against Milwaukie on April 10, with 17 strikeouts. Abramson, who has a 1.72 ERA, is headed to Oregon Tech next season. Putnam coach Sam Frost calls her “a smart pitcher and great hitter” and “a great leader and captain for this team.”

Sean Alvarado, South Salem, sophomore
Chase Allgood | For The Oregonian/OregonLive
After his freshman year, Alvarado was named honorable mention all-Greater Valley Conference as an outfielder. This year, he has also demonstrated his ability on the mound. Through 18 innings, the southpaw had allowed only seven hits while striking out 25. Alvarado’s fastball hovers in the upper 70s, but could increase as he grows.
