Delta Pi History

The idea for establishing a member boulé  in Pensacola came from Kennedy A. Mumford, who had lived most of his adult life in the environs of Miami, and Duncan E. Jackson, who had lived in the area of Tallahassee. In 1994, when Mumford relocated to Pensacola, he and Jackson began conferring on names they could submit as possible charter members of a new boulé. They then contacted the Grand Boulé and Archon Robert V. Franklin, who provided information and guidance on organizing a member boulé. On November 5, 1999, Jackson and Mumford officially petitioned the Grand Boulé for a charter in Pensacola. Sixteen prospective members attended the initial interest meeting hosted by Admiral David Brewer on January 8, 2000. Representing the Grand Boulé at that meeting were Archon Robert V. Franklin and Grand Sire Archon Hargrove Wooten. Officers of the proposed boulé were elected in advance. And on May 20, 2000, at the Mustin Beach Officer’s Club on Pensacola Naval Air Station, eighteen Archons were inducted into Delta Pi Boulé with Kennedy A. Mumford, Sr., serving as the boulé ‘s first Sire Archon. Grand Sire Archon Eddie N. Williams presided with other Grand Officers in attendance.
