The Buzz: Disney's promotional campaign for the long-in-the-works fifth POTC outing has kept the focus on Javier Bardem's Captain Salazar and his ghost crew who are out to wipe out all pirates -- especially Captain Jack Sparrow. With nods back to the original movie and plenty of inventiveness to be found in the trailers, this could be the most welcome sequel of the season.

Certificate R   -   Action | Comedy | Drama

Devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan butts heads with a brash new recruit. Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

The Buzz: Just when you thought '80s revivals had run aground, the long-planned Baywatch movie brings back the iconic red swimsuits (and rescue cans) as franchise-helper Dwayne Johnson is enlisted early on to resuscitate this property. Though awareness of the movie is broiling hot, it's hard to tell if audiences will keep showing up for an R-rated take on a beloved softcore TV program.

Certificate R   -   Documentary

The tale of the Grateful Dead is inspiring, complicated, and downright messy. A tribe of contrarians, they made art out of open-ended chaos and inadvertently achieved success on their own terms. Never-before-seen footage and interviews offer this unprecedented and unvarnished look at the life of the Dead.

The Buzz: Deadheads unite!

Producer Martin Scorsese and director Amir Bar-Lev's epic documentary about The Grateful Dead premiered at Sundance earlier this year to rave reviews. Featuring never-before-seen interviews and concert footage, Bar-Lev chronicles the 30-year history of the band and the psychedelic subculture that surrounded it. "Long Strange Trip gives you a glimpse into the artists who risked their lives in search of a transcendental moment via the right combo of chords and camaraderie," wrote Rolling Stone's David Fear, and at four hours long, "It's not nearly long enough." -Matt

Certificate PG   -   Documentary

Revisit with the remaining original members of the Buena Vista Social Club and explore their contribution to the unknown history of Cuba.

The Buzz: The follow up to Wim Wenders' Oscar-nominated documentary is flying under the radar as its distributor, Broad Green Pictures, has had curious operational issues that saw the project pulled from Sundance 2017 on the day it was supposed to have its world premiere. So it looks like the same music-loving audience might not yet be aware of this document of BVSC's farewell tour that ultimately brings them home to Havana.

  -   Thriller

Ideologies collide with fatal results when a military drone contractor meets an enigmatic Pakistani businessman.

The Buzz: Unlike the other recent movies about drone warfare, director Jason Bourque's thriller concerns itself with what could happen when an war-game enemy decides to show up at your doorstep.
