SNES Mini tipped for 2017 release
Following Nintendo's decision to cease production of the widly populer NES Classic Mini, rumours have surfaced that the company will release a SNES Mini for Christmas this year. Eurogamer reports that sources "close to the company," have confirmed the system is currently in development. Game video content to reach US $4.6-billion by year's end
Research firm, Superdata is expecting gaming video content will tip the scales at over US $4.6-billion this year, driven by a global audience of 665-million. $3.2-billion of the figure was generated in advertising.
2016 figures show that the gaming video audience hit 517-million on YouTube and 185-million on Twitch. The remaninder was made up by the likes of HBO and ESPN. Continuing on, Superdata believe that audience will grow by a furth 21% in the next four year. Full story MCV UK.
Analyst expects Switch Mini to be released
An analyst at Citigroup, as reported by Bloomberg, believes that Nintendo is missing out on a huge portion of its potential market size due to the Switch's physical size. Citigroup wrote, “Although the Nintendo Switch can be used as a handheld device, we think smaller children could struggle to use it comfortably in that format due to its size and weight..”
“Accordingly, we think Nintendo will launch a lighter, dedicated handheld version of the Switch, possibly to be called the Switch Mini.”
The group went on to predict that if Nintendo were to make the system, it would sell 6.7-million units in the year ending March 2019. Full story MCV UK.
