5 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Fox Searchlight has set its family drama “Goodbye Christopher Robin,” starring Domnhall Gleeson and Margot Robbie, for an awards-season release date of November 10.

Gleeson portrays British author A.A. Milne, who found the inspiration for his two Winnie the Pooh books — “Winnie the Pooh” in 1926 and “The House at Pooh Corner” in 1928 — from his son Christopher Robin Milne and his stuffed animals, most notably a Canadian black bear named Winnie used as a military mascot in World War I, and left to the London Zoo during the war. The toys also served as inspiration for Milne’s Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet characters.

The family lived near the Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest, which served as the inspiration for the Hundred Acre Wood in the Pooh books. Will Tilston is playing the Christopher Robin role. Margot Robbie portrays Milne’s wife Daphne and Kelly Macdonald plays the family’s nanny. »

'Fate of the Furious' Revs Engines, Looking at $100+ Million Opening Weekend

9 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Once again a new installment in the Fast and Furious franchise takes flight in April and while The Fate of the Furious isn't expected to match the nearly $150 million opening of 2015's Furious 7, it is expected to become the second $100+ million opener of 2017 as all other studios have scattered, making it the only new wide release of the week. That said, Open Road will debut their animated feature Spark: A Space Tail in just over 350 theaters while Fox already began the nationwide expansion of their drama Gifted into over 1,000 theaters on Wednesday. Prior to Furious 7, the largest opening for a Fast and Furious film was the $97.3 million opening for Fast & Furious 6 back in May 2013. Industry expectations for this eighth installment have Fate of the Furious debuting with $100 million in 4,311 theaters. This is the widest April opening of all-time (307 more than Furious 7) and 13th widest release of all-time. »

Just one month before J.C. Chandor’s “Triple Frontier” was set to start filming, Paramount has dropped out of the project, and so have the two biggest stars attached to the action thriller, Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy, as reported by Deadline. According to the publication, sources said that the actors were not too happy about a new version of the script that Chandor had turned in. And, apparently, according to some Deadline sources, the studio decided to drop out when those “creative differences” threatened to affect the progress of the project, which was supposed to be finished in a tight schedule and for a price.

Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali and Adria Arjona were recently cast in the film, which Chandor is set to direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mark Boal. »
