'Smurfs 3' and 'Going in Style' Debut as Moviegoers Await 'Fast and Furious 8'

8 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

We've already seen some strong performances at the box office this year all of which have contributed to the yearly domestic box office topping $3 billion in ticket sales faster than it ever has before. Last weekend, The Boss Baby became the fifth release of 2017 to top $50 million at the weekend box office and while this weekend won't see similar returns for the week's new wide releases, it's the relative calm before the storm as Universal's The Fate of the Furious debuts next weekend, sure to become the year's second $100+ million opener. As for this weekend, the top twelve may struggle to reach $120 million collectively as both Smurfs: The Lost Village and Going in Style are looking at relatively soft openings while Pure Flix's The Case for Christ should find a spot in the lower half of the weekend top ten. At the top of the box office it's looking like »

But the way it is now, no, I won’t do that.” TheWrap can confirm that Dutch Schaefer, Schwarzenegger’s character from the John McTiernan-directed 1987 original, appears at the very end of Black and Fred Dekker’s latest screenplay draft for the reboot. »

7 April 1961: In his biography, Maurice Zolotow’s tries to explain the aura that surrounds Miss Monroe

The British intelligentsia are suckers for the Cinderella myth. Show them a pin-up girl turned movie star and they will rush to recognise her as a “natural actress,” “a born comedienne,” or “artlessly touching.” One can think of at least three beautiful women, with no acting capabilities whatsoever, who have been acclaimed as actresses by the serious British critics. The same critics had very probably jeered at these same girls when they were merely “sex symbols.”

Insult comic Don Rickles dies aged 90

1 hour ago | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Martin Scorsese pays tribute: “It was like listening to a great jazz musician wail.”

Don Rickles, legendary comedian and actor, died on Thursday in Los Angeles of kidney failure. He was 90.

Born in New York City, Rickles began his career in nightclubs where he earned his reputation as an insult comic after his manner of responding to hecklers became as popular as the material itself.

Rickles’ career spanned more than six decades and included continued stand-up routines, acting in television and film, as well as regular appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Show with David Letterman.

The comedian may be best known to contemporary audiences as the voice of Mr. Potato Head in Pixar’s Toy Story films, including the latest instalment, Toy Story 4, due to hit theatres in 2019.

Film Review: ‘Going in Style’

2 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In “Going in Style,” the 1979 Hollywood fable of old age in America that’s still remembered with a certain scrappy fondness, George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg play brittle old fogies who team up to rob a bank, but it wouldn’t be quite accurate to call the result “a heist movie.” The three hatch their crime as a way to escape loneliness, and to get their juices flowing — to rage against the dying of the light — and the robbery itself is mostly a ramshackle joke, with our cranky stooped codgers barely disguised by Groucho glasses.

The slick new remake of “Going in Style,” on the other hand, really is a heist movie. Our heroes, now played by Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Alan Arkin, team up to rob the Williamsburg Savings Bank in their native Brooklyn, and we see them prepping for the crime in a full-on, split-screen montage of strategic training rituals. »

‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Welcomes New Cast Regulars the Only Way It Knows How: Through Song

2 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

TV shows usually aren’t able to turn a discussion of two seasons of television into a thoroughly enjoyable low-key cabaret night. But that’s precisely what the cast and crew of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” did on Wednesday at the Television Academy in North Hollywood.

Gathering in front of TV Academy voters for their 2017 For Your Consideration event, the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” cast performed eight songs from the show’s sophomore season, weaving in a discussion of the various challenges that the latest run of episodes provided for the whole team. In a surprise move (that, in retrospect, is the only way that one of these things should start), writer/co-creator/star Rachel Bloom introduced the evening’s participants via a re-worked version of the show’s song “I Have Friends.”

Though the audience had trouble getting the song’s distinct clapping rhythm in unison, stars Vincent Rodriguez III (Josh Chan), Donna Lynne Champlin »
