Library & Research Service

The Oireachtas Library & Research Service manages the Irish parliamentary library and provides an impartial research service to Members of the Oireachtas in support of their parliamentary business.

The Service’s primary users are the individual Members of the Houses of the Oireachtas, Committees and staff of the Houses. The Library & Research Service provides these users with information and research in respect of their parliamentary duties. As the parliamentary library serving all members equally, all information and research provided is impartial and politically neutral.

The purpose of this Statement of Services is to give information to Members and to other users about the services available to them from the Oireachtas Library & Research Service.

Online Catalogue

The L&RS Online catalogue (OPAC) is available to access here.  This enables members of the public, departments & agencies, and academic users to access digital scans of over 80,000 documents.

Research Publications

The L&RS has updated and published its guide to "Researching past and present Members."
This is a useful starting point for anyone wishing to source biographical information on a Member of the Oireachtas.

Selected research papers prepared by the Library & Research Service for Members are available to the public on our Research Publications page.

Documents Laid

The L&RS manages the documents laid procedures for the Houses of the Oireachtas.  These collections are available within the OPAC.  Further details about documents laid are available here.

Weekly edocuments laid

Our eDocsLaid Weekly Listing gives full text access to all documents laid electronically in the previous week.  To view previous weekly lists click here.  Documents Laid that are subject to a 21 sitting days motion, are highlighted with bold text.   The list of documents is arranged by Government Department.

Online Exhibitions

To mark the launch of the OPAC, the L&RS has created three exhibitions using material from its collections.  These can be viewed here.

Access to Print Collections

Where a research query is not met through access to the digital items within the online catalogue, the collections of the Library & Research Service are open by arrangement to bona fide researchers.
