James Franco, Seth Rogen Developing ’90s Teen Drama at Hulu From Writer Kelly Oxford (Exclusive)

6 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

James Franco and Seth Rogen are teaming up — this time, behind the camera.

The duo is developing a ’90s teen drama with author and social media personality Kelly Oxford, who is writing the script, Variety has learned exclusively.

Franco and Rogen will serve as executive producers on the project that is in early development, along with Franco’s producing partner Vince Jolivette and Rogen’s longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg. The hourlong series is currently untitled. Variety‘s source described the project as a teen show set in the 1990’s.

Funny enough, Franco and Rogen started working together on their own teen series in the ’90s, “Freaks and Geeks,” which was a comedy set in the ’80s.

To date, the pair has worked on a number of films together from “Pineapple Express” to “The Interview” to “This Is the End” and most recently, “The Disaster Artist,” which debuted at SXSW to rave reviews. The »

TV Ratings: ‘Empire’ Returns on Par With Midseason Finale

12 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Fox’s “Empire” remains king, even if the viewing audiences it commands has shrunk a little. The midseason return of Cookie Lyon notched a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an average audience of 7.89 million in Nielsen’s preliminary fast national ratings, right around where it left off in December (2.7 demo rating, 7.58 million viewers).

“Empire” lead-in “Shots Fired,” though, got off to a bit of a slow start, drawing a 1.1 demo rating and 4.67 million viewers. While a 1.1 demo rating isn’t even close to the worst debut an hourlong series has had this TV season, the “Shots Fired” premiere adds another data point to an emerging trend.

Shows like “Shots Fired” and ABC’s “American Crime” and “When We Rise” have made a splash in the industry by daring to tell complex, diverse, politically charged stories about serious issues facing American society on broadcast television, but viewers just don’t seem to be flocking to them: “Shots »

Superstore Review: “Mateo’s Last Day” Celebration

28 minutes ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Superstore has become a lot like The Office in a way. I say that because as it goes along, Superstore has characters who grown on you by the episode, and who are moving through real life situations in a realistic but funny way. Given that Jim transferred early on in The Office, Mateo’s near-transfer and heartbreaking breakup were eerily reminiscent of that show, but in an updated, retail-centric sort of way. This week on Superstore: Mateo is all set to transfer, when he finds out he must have a physical copy of his social security card. Being that he does not have one, Jonah and Cheyenne try to help

‘Baskets’ Review: Season 2 Finale Makes a Bold Move Toward a New Family Business

1 hour ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for the “Baskets” Season 2 finale, Episode 10, “Circus.”]

After a year that saw the Baskets family driven apart, Season 2 wrapped by bringing them all together — in an unexpectedly endearing manner. Christine (Louie Anderson), who literally skipped town a few episodes prior and tried out a new family in “Denver” (Episode 7), made the bold choice to go into business with her boys instead of being taken care of by Ken (Alex Morris). He offered. She said no. And now they’re “building an empire” — a circus empire.

For as much as we loved Dale and Chip’s journeys in Season 2, which saw an increased focus on Chip being rewarded for hard work and Dale being punished for immature behavior, this finale’s focus on Christine was more than fitting. Louie Anderson earned an Emmy for his performance in Season 1, and, if we’re comparing the two for such purposes, this year’s turn was even better. He could have more gold in his future. »

She began by asking Huck to kill him — you know, the way you might ask a friend to pick you up at the airport if it’s not too much of an inconvenience — but that mission quickly proved… problematic. Alright, Fine: I’ll Post the Justice League Teaser Trailer

I’m pretty sure that at least 90% of websites on the planet posted either a Justice League poster or a Justice League teaser trailer today.  I tried as hard as I possibly could to not post this.  But how could I not?  While we only got about 6 seconds of actual movie footage even I have to admit it’s kind of cool to see some of the behind the scenes shots here.  Does that mean I think this movie will be good?  Hardly.  Is it me or is it every single time I see Ben Affleck in that getup I

So Now Lavar Ball Can Beat Michael Jordan in One on One?

Because of the very fact that I cannot imagine a worse pairing of people talking in the entire world, how could I not post this video?  Stephen A. Smith had Lavar Ball on First Take and as you would expect, these two yelled at each other the entire time.  Based on the video, I’m still racking my brain as to which guy I can’t stand more.  Stephen A. Smith has been with us for a very long time so I’m kind of used to him but at the same time, my hatred as grown considerably. Ball on the other hand

When you think of the amount of movies Nicolas Cage has been in not to mention the variety it’s easy to assume this guy isn’t picky at all when it comes to the roles he chooses.  Plus when you want to buy stuff like dinosaur fossils and other super weird items that Mr. Cage owns, you take whatever money you can get to live a lavish lifestyle.   So during the 90s when Laura Dern was offered a role in Jurassic Park she decided to consult her friend Nicolas Cage on the potential gig.  Dern recently revealed that it was Cage

Five Year-Old Geography Wiz Makes Hilarious Donald Trump Dig on Ellen

While the bigger story to come out of Ellen today is the fact that she set up a “group date” with Rachel Lindsay and her Bachelorette contestants, the highlight of any Ellen show reference today has got to be this 5-year-old kid.  Ellen had this little tyke on her show because he’s a geography wiz.   And at only 5 he constructed his own little map to show Ellen.   The little guy was pointing out everything on his map from icebergs to ice cubes. But when it came time to point to something in the top right corner of his map,

Meet the Real Artist Behind Lily Tomlin’s Paintings on ‘Grace and Frankie’

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Grace and Frankie” stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, but there is another star of the series whose face has never been seen onscreen. That person is Nancy Rosen, the real-life artist who provides all of the paintings on the series for Tomlin’s character, who is a painter and art teacher.

The Chicago-based Rosen has provided paintings for every season of the Netflix series, but her love of art goes back to her childhood. “I’ve been painting since I was five,” Rosen told Variety. “I didn’t have any choice about that. That’s just what it’s always been. It’s always made up my entire life. It’s kind of what wakes me up in the morning and I do every day.”

Rosen is an old friend of Robbie Tollin, an executive producer on the series. “Her and her family have been collecting my work since I was a little girl,” she »

Lebron James Sings “Happy Birthday” To Kyrie Irving Not Once Pronouncing “Birthday” Correctly

4 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Let me be the first to say that I’m a Lebron James fan.  I think he’s one of the best players in the history of the game.  I think he’s taken more heat than just about any player for any small thing that he does.  Guys like Charles Barkley and other “old school” personalities don’t give him nearly the respect he deserves.  I admire his ability to take it all in stride.  I admire how smart a basketball player he is.  But if there’s one thing I do not admire it’s his singing skills or pronunciation of the word “Birthday.”
